The worst professor I have had in my college career. This class nowhere near matches the workload of the other ansci 200-levels. Grades extremely hard and wants specific answers that no one knows.

Dr. Skaar a caring professor that honestly wants you to do well. However, his tests are long and difficult. His homework assignments are very wordy and are hard to navigate through at times. If you ask questions though, he will help you out and walk you through everything. Overall, I would take classes with him again.

Dr. Skaar was incredibly helpful during COVID. He was willing to answer any questions on the homework and quizzes, which meant those were easy As. He would also help you on tests if you just asked. I really wish we could have been in person, but he was very helpful and his lectures were very enjoyable!

It takes him until two days before final grades are out for you to know your grade for the first time since the mid-term grades were released. His Canvas is an absolute disaster. he abbreviates everything making it extremely difficult to know what to do and what not to do. He is a nice person, just can't use technology... It's 2020 figure it out.

Two exams count for 75% of your grade. Labs will last full two hours during the farm tours. Needs very specific terms on homeworks, tests, etc. Be aware that grading is not always the same based on what TA grades your assignment.

There's a quiz every lecture period. Labs are usually on the farms as just a walking tour so it's not super exciting. However, Skaar is a very entertaining lecturer and is very knowledgeable on the subjects he teaches. The only downside was his TA's that graded some of the papers with different answers than what his lecture notes say.

You will not like this if you have a very anthropomorphic stance on animals. This class made me a vegan :)

Amazing lecturer, and wonderful to talk to if you are unsure about your major. If you have an ag background, this class is fairly easy. There are assignments that have to be turned in in paper, which can be easy to forget about. Very protective/strict about attendance. There are good quizlets for exam studying, I got As on the exams using them.

I loved taking this class with Skaar. I did have to work for my grade, but I enjoyed the lectures and labs. Exams were all multiple choice and true or false, making them easy if you pay attention and study. Skaar is very knowledgeable and I feel that he cares about the success of his students. I would recommend taking this class.

Dr. Skaar is an amazing teacher, in recent years he has moved to multiple choice on exams and he owns up to mistakes. He is very picky about attendance but he is accommodating. He is very respectful and fun too. I would recommend taking this class!

Too much homework for it to only be 25 percent of your grade. He lied about what was to be expected on the first exam. A little lazy as well. Not a terrible guy, just not a good professor.

Dr. Skaar is a guy you want in your corner. However, he is the most difficult grader I've encountered. If you do not word it EXACTLY like he does, it's probably wrong. Go talk to him, that is the best way to pass. He truly does care, but he has an odd way of showing it by criticizing young people and our poor wording at least once a week in class.

One of the most fun classes I have taken at Iowa State! Does a good job of making sure you understand the material even if you didn't come from a livestock background.

Class is one that you have to work for. Lots of material thrown at you, but it's not impossible. He's is very passionate about animals, especially the beef industry, and wants you to learn about it as much as possible. Things are very detailed and can be quite specific, but it's for a good reason. Show up for class, otherwise you wont understand.

Really amazing professor. Works really hard to help you, especially if you go to him with questions. He's always more than happy to explain material more in-depth or in a different way so that you can understand. Take good notes and review them! Exams are a bit difficult, but if you're well prepared they're quite easy.

He's a great professor and he is pretty passionate in his lectures. The lectures are very detailed so take good notes. The labs are crucial. Quizzes in the beginning of lecture so make sure to review material from the previous week for easy points. He answers questions well too. File assignments/notes effectively, heavy review for exams needed.

Skaar was one of the best professors Ive had for a lecture. He allowed students to ask questions during lecture and answered them kindheartedly. Unfortunately, there was a large amount of homework. Each class has a quiz. Each lab has a worksheet. And after lab you have another assignment that must be turned in, in paper, outside class hours.

Awful teacher takes as many points as possible. loves to see people fail. If you can't quote him word for word you won't do well.
