I am required to take his class and it is becoming a nightmare. He is the wrong choice for BIO 110 as he is no help to those who are interested in science. He is arrogant, will not provide assistance, expects perfection, and will push you away from the major. This is not tough love for his students it is negligence as an educator.

I would highly advise not taking a class with this guy. Extremely unhelpful, handed a paper back that just said "D" on it, nothihng else, and when i asked him what was wrong he told me to ask someone else in the class? Doesnt explain anything he is talking about, and the closest he gets to actual teaching is a few messy drawings on the board.

Do not take this class. His very first speech is basically telling you that you suck, and will never become a doctor or vet... not exactly what you should be telling first year freshmen. He is also very arrogant, I'm a volunteer firefighter, my pager went off in class so I politely left to listen to it really quick, and he kicked me out of class.

He can be a nice guy, but if you get him for Bio 110 good luck. He is nasty to his students unless you love plants. He told us we would never be able to succeed, and if you dont have the right grammar you will get an automatic D or an E. Not very helpful with this class, I dont know about the upper level courses, but I hated him and he hated me.

I've heard he's nicer in his upper-level courses but if you're a freshman, don't take seminar with him. There's weekly 1-page papers, but if you even have one mistake of any kind (Even a period), it's almost 3 letter grades off that paper. I got a B+ in the class and I still think he's way too hard on freshman.

Avoid his bio seminar, he purposely tries to "weed out the weak" and hates premed students. But in a small botany class which is his passion he's really great. He tells stories and brings you food, and he has a lot of connections which makes him a great ally for references if you make a good impression on him, just work hard and he'll respect that. He flies through material so it's best to write key points and look the rest up later. He holds you to a high standard as every prof should.

Absolutely a disappointment. He enjoys watching his students struggle. I submitted rough drafts before assignments were due and then when I attempted to resubmit them, he rejected them and claimed he didn't feel it necessary to correct grammatical errors. He made me want to switch my major but in the end his speech made me driven to prove him wrong

James Seago comes off as a rude, uncaring, and frankly scary professor. If you don't follow every single direction on assignments you're guaranteed an E. I never got above a C+ on anything, but I ended up with a B in class. He doesn't have faith in students who are trying to become doctors or vets. If you get stuck in his class make the best of it.

Do not take him for bio 110. He CAN be a decent guy (when his wife tells him to)Makes you do unnecessary work for a one credit seminar class. I worked my ass off and still got a C plus. Waste of time I learned nothing. Also, is extremely arrogant and made me not want to be a bio major any more.

I don't see what many people are complaining about. I am about the worst when it comes to science. I got a B+! If you can't follow clear instructions, stay home. 300 level classes are supposed to challenge you. It was a very interesting class.

Do not take this class unless you are prepared to write a 20 page single spaced paper. As well as 2 other papers and 2 presentations. Ridiculous. And after all that work prepare yourself for a B grade at the most. Unless he deems you worthy of his intelligence at which point you may recieve a B+. The most unpleasent class I have ever had totake

A terrible, miserable man. I have never been this disappointed with a professor in my life. Not only is he extremely arrogant, but he is unable to communicate with his students. We are all useless and have no intellect at all according to this shrew man. I tell everyone who is now entering bio seminar, for the sake of their education, switch out.

Seago is NOT grumpy...he just has a low bullsh!t tolerance...and I don't blame him! There were several non-sci majors in the class who didn't take it seriously, and he ripped them a new one. They deserved it! Anyway...do your best and show interest...ask questions, speak up in class. He's a rather endearing person when you get to know him :-).

An interesting guy. He has a passion for plants, that is for sure. It's a good class, though. You must become an expert on just one plant topic and give a lecture/write your term paper on it. Besides that, not much work and he makes lots of great plant-related food. He's a little grumpy and unreasonable sometimes, but mostly a decent class.
