Very engaging and great at speaking and making history interesting. Grading and feedback was very thorough and he (and the other professor in the class) were very keen on receiving feedback despite years of experience, indicating a willingness to get even better. Loved the class

Cope is caring and is always willing to give extensions for essays. Doing the reading's help for class participation, which he takes into account in your final grade. Essays are relatively easy and this class is an easy A if you put in effort. I plan to take many more classes with Cope, and would definitely recommend him to friends.

Each class has a little bit of lecture for context and then shifts to group work to answer questions based on last night's reading. It's a really good set up that gives way for a welcoming and interesting experience. Cope himself is great; super funny and very knowledgeable about his content. Definitely would recommend! A super pleasant class

Joe Cope is by far my favorite professor here. He is caring and understanding about everything, and if you need an extension on essays, he is very willing to help out. His lectures are interesting, and he typically has the class do group work after/during. Class participation is important and it really helps to understand the reading better. 11/10

Possibly the best professor I have ever had. Extremely intelligent and has a genuine interest seeing his students better themselves. I highly recommend Cope for anyone who is likes to learn, and looking for a professor who is helpful, passionate, and a straight-up nice guy. Can't recommend him enough.

Cope is a great guy. Highly recommend for Humn 1. He gives extensions for papers if you needask for them, which I used almost every time. I sparknoted most (but not all) books and got a B+. You should read at least 1 for every 3 books assigned, because that's how his essays are structured. Lots of essays and quizzes, no tests. Big thumbs up.

Cope is a really good professor but is definitely demanding with papers and most of your grade comes from papers. He brings in historical context and makes texts more interesting by asking WHY we are reading them and why they are important which was really cool. Helpful during office hours, honest, and looks for improvement in your writing.

Dr. Cope is a wonderful professor. I took him for both sequences of HUMN. Though he recognizes that Humanities does not interest everyone, his classes are engaging and detailed. He gives no in-class exams, as he favors essays. He is always willing to work with his students. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Cope is an amazing teacher for hum. Class is all lecture/discussion and while attendance is not mandatory, its worth your while to go because he talks about everything you need to know about the books. No in class exams, all papers. Tough grader but he's willing to give feedback on your ideas/drafts. This class is a challenge but worth it.

He is seriously a fantastic professor. Kind, helpful, and very invested in his students. He wants you to learn and succeed. I took HUMN with him too and I really enjoyed the class and I highly recommend him if you actually want to think. He can be a tough grader, but he always lets you submit paper drafts. Totally great dude.

Highly recommend him for Humn if you actually want to think. He doesn't just make you learn the texts but asks you to think about them and apply them to life... it's really cool. I enjoyed this class a lot. The tests are fair and the essay's aren't hard. Not nearly as boring as humn I was for me!

No in class tests for this class. They were all take home tests. Reading was unnecessary as I never read and got an A- in the class. Attendance is important if you are not planning on reading. Cope makes history very interesting and he is a fair grader.

Humanities with Cope is a steal! The class is very clear and easy: read the books (don't have to though), take good notes during lecture (a must), and make a good cheat sheet for the tests (they have to be only one page, but you can use font 6 and squeeze in all pertinent info) The 2 papers are easy too. Great professor, most importantly!
