While his stories, experiences, and movies shown were more than intriguing ... his lecture and people skills need some work. A 6 + page paper at the end of the semester is included with multiple novels, quizzes, and two exams. His feedback was extremely blunt and came off rather rude. If you have to miss class you won't miss a whole lot!

Lees teaches a lecture-style class with no powerpoint, so if you're not paying attention you can miss a lot of important stuff that will be on the test. You DO NOT have to buy the map book for this class. Boring, but bearable. Go to class and listen. No out of class work.

His lectures are extremely hard to follow because he doesn't use PowerPoint. He just talks and you don't know what to take notes on. He is very knowledgeable but tests are difficult and he tries to trick you.

He's a good guy and has an incredible knowledge about Germany, but his lectures are all over the place. He's super hard to follow. READ THE BOOKS. Quizzes over each book he assigns, midterm and final that are only essay, and a 6-10 page paper over a topic of your choice. He's an easy grader and curves the quizzes.

Dr. Lees was great! He made the class really interesting and I did not want to miss a class because I might have missed one of his stories. He tells stories that connect with the lecture and help to remember some of the details. I think he is retiring but if he does stay definitely use the study guides to study and you will be fine!!

Super boring. He basically teaches a lecture hall style class but with a smaller number of students so you can't get away with the same things you could in a larger class, but its still painfully dull. The things he talks about in class never relate to the test so you get stuck doing all of your studying off of the study guides, not your notes.

Will never take a class with him again. I felt like I didn't learn much in class due to his teaching style. I hear he's retiring.. Probably for the best.

Interesting class for people who enjoy history. There are 3 tests as well as 5 quizzes over various books that are expected to be read outside of the textbook. There is also 1 big project that he grades fairly easily. Good class, I'm definitely taking another one of his classes.

Very Fun! He is super excited about his subject and knows the material very well. It's a great class to take but very challenging. He expects you to do the reading, which is everyday, and participate in class. It's very beneficial and you learn a lot.

Dr. Lees is a great professor. I took him for History of Germany to 1648. He is a tough professor, but he is very understanding of your life. You obviously have to read the material hsitory majors. Study his study guide and TAKE GOOD NOTES. He talks fast but write it down. He is very welcoming to helping his students. GO SEE HIM if you need help

Lecture: goes off on tangents, scribbles a word or two on board, very hard to follow Quizzes: know the maps! take the quiz on sparknotes to give you some kind of idea - but they were very hard (failed all of them) Tests: know the terms and maps, essay you can probably BS your way through - SG is pretty much the test w/out the map.

Dr. Lees is a great professor but his tests were kinda insane. For our first exam we had to memorize 86 words and four things about each word as well as 5 essay questions and 20 locations on a map. Other than that he is really invested in his students and he is fun to listen to. I didn't like how he graded our essays in front of us, however.

I like Dr. Lees a lot. Seems like a wonderful character, and a good teacher as well. The tests are a bit challenging and do require studying, but the essays, quizes, and books can usually be prepared for via sparknotes. For being hung over half the time, the class was rather easy.

Took the honors section and it was definitely my hardest class of the semester. Huge study guides for the tests and you have to know the majority of them. Give who, what, where, when, and why for definitions then essay on tests. Two papers and a presentation make up the rest of your grade.
