Comment:
His lecture is good ! But test is super HARD so it is even hard to get over 80. Extra credits are only 6pt per exam which is 110pt. A is over 92 percent. And his study sessions are approachable ONLY if you live in Dorm. He is only one who teach Ochem, so if you want to get better grade than B and If you can, youd better enroll courses in UH.

One of the best profs I've taken at this university, who genuinely cares about his students. He is very accessible outside of class. Be prepared to read the textbook and do a lot of outside work if you want an A , OChem is by no means easy. His tests are fair, look at the study guide and work the practice problems. Also offers study sessions.

Personally, I do not like organic chemistry. I feel like he could possibly alter his learning style. I know I can't change that, yet if he took a different approach, it could help so many students! He does have high intelligence for everything organic chemistry and more, he is a great teacher, personable, organized, & you get old exams to use!

Dr. Horgen is the best chemistry professor that I have ever had. He cares about his students and is willing to explain things over again if you get confused. The material can be difficult so it is important to spend a lot of time on it. Don't fall behind in this class! Definitely worth taking though.

Horgen is a good professor. Although he isn't always very clear in lecture, he is very willing to answer questions one on one and can explain things thoroughly. You get out what you put into this class- you will have a hard time if you don't work the optional practice problems, and attend his study sessions. He wants students to succeed.

Dr. Horgen is an exceptionally good professor. Although his tests aren't easy, they reflect the work and effort you put into the class. Pay attention, go to his classes and study everyday for 20min at home and you will get a good grade. He does tutoring sessions (highly recommend to attend) and meets with students to help them achieve their goals.

A great teacher, not an easy A but gives you lots of chances to succeed. Make sure you attend study sessions and ask for old exams. You should also go to his office if you don't understand something because he will make it very clear. Really wish he taught other courses I needed, also attend class and listen, and practice your reactions.

Very good professor. Uses many different teaching methods to accommodate different leaning styles. Very little busy work. Available outside of class and office hours for extra help. 80% of your grade is based on 4 exams, for which similar practice exams are made available in advance. Very fair curve: A- starts at 85%.

Very accessible. You can annoy the hell outta him with questions and he wont get mad. For those that complain, they probably did not have the dedication. The material is not the hard, it just takes alot of practice. it's like math, you need to do the practice problems to do well in that class. If you put the effort in you'll get an A-/A

I am taking this class over after not passing the first time. I took some prepatory courses this time so I would be better prepared and I feel confident in saying take this class somewhere else if you can. He is a nice guy but not a great teacher. His tests are tricky and hard and he does take off a ton of points for small errors. Can be arrogant!

Excellent professor! Very kind, funny, and intelligent! You must apply yourself, and the ones that are complaining are those that probably do not. He goes out of his way to do extra study sessions all of the time. I give prof. Horgen an A+

Yes, the tests are difficult. He wants you to understand the concepts, and since alot of students taking this class are likely going on to graduate programs, mastering the topics and doing well on his tests means better scores on entrance exams for grad schools! Very accessible and holds review sessions as much as he can. Highly recommend!

Knows Organic Chemistry as if it were his alphabet. The class is not hard if you keep up on the reading and hw, this requires self disciple since it is not graded. I found the teacher very helpful and truly carried about whether the students who were trying passed or not. He is so well versed in this subject at times it is hard to follow what he is

Bad teacher. He treats his students with little respect and acts arrogant. He offers study sessions, however, the material covered is rarely on the exam. Avoid talking to him alone, unless you want to be treated like a child.

Exam are tough, but he has said they have gotten progressively easier since being at HPU. Always willing to have extra study sessions with students, even on Sundays. Fairly young with a young son, so he is good with students. He talked about real world examples, like swine flu and inhaler/drug mechanisms in fighting it.

Well, I think he cares about Organic Chemistry, but he just is not the best teacher of it. He uses too scientificy terms that don't grab the students' attention. I wish I could have the same teacher I had this semester for next semester. Because He can not explain himself extremely well at times.

Comment:
David is knowledgeable in chemistry, but makes his exams too hard, and seems to deliberately want to screw students over. He is willing to help you with HW questions, yet he seems arrogant at times. Despite his easy grade scale, he likes to mark off TONS of points on his exams, which gives you the grade you don't want.
