class which you have to take very differently than classes you would normally take.not much structure which is good for some people and bad for others. He will let you do a paper over as may times as you want for a better grade. There really aren't any points, you are grade on how well you write your papers and participation, nice guy to talk to

By far the most enlightening professor on campus. His classes are more challenging than entertaining but I left this semester with more insight and knowledge than I had ever been given by any class before.

Extremely difficult to understand!! Very poor communication skills or none at all. There was no need to come to class, unless you wanted to be frustrated!! There was an attendance requirement, unless you were his chosen, who did not have to come to class or complete the work. Do not waste your time preparing for class, he did not follow from th

Inconsistent. No clear standards for grading that he will stick to. Lumps most/all responsibility onto student for contacting him, even after several tries (during office hours). Will waste your time when you do successfully talk with him. Unless you want a mushy, feel-good experience, do not take (including low level classes). Not real philosophy.

very intelligent, kind of unorganized and unstructured which will frustrate the hell out of some people like me...dont ask a question that he wont like because he will ignore you or make some notion of annoyance toward you...1 qestion not to ask is how many points something is worth...cant tell you why becuase i dont have enough space

Thomas W. Simon is the best philosophy teacher at ISU. He blends philosophy with social issues, which allows students to grasp the real problems of the world and apply reason to them.

He knows a lot but his lectures are dry and he makes you work for your grade. For the first part of the semester, we learned about history and for the second part we wrote a paper and watched movies. He didn't tie it all together very well for a class called "Ideals of democracy". He's pretty laid back, though.

ok, the tests in this class were alright, a lot of writing though (short answer, true false, essay, maps, etc).. and if you attend class you should be ok, but just make sure you dont have it early in the morning otherwise you will fall asleep (i guarantee it) he can be very boring and rambles at times!

For a gen.ed this class isn't bad at all. Thomas Simon has a cool head. He is one of the most intelligent professors I've ever had and the class might seem overwheleming at first, but you'll become a mini-expert on what you need to know which makes the tests easy. He got me interested in global issues, which I think will last a lifetime.

I highly recommend this teacher although he's gone until Fall 2006. He is an extremely intelligent person, and has high respect for all of his student's opinions. He is not exceptionally organized, but he is a wealth of global information, mostly through personal experience. I love that someone gave him a "Hot" rating. His brain IS very sexy.

Dr. Simon was an amazing instructor. I learned more from him than from any other professor at the university. He has been everywhere...exposed to so much....that he has so much to offer students. If you get the opportunity, take one of his courses. I am certain you will find it to be challenging, yet very rewarding.

TAKE THIS CLASS! Prof. Simon has an incredible wealth of knowledge he relays to the students. However, this class doesn't numb the brain with an overwhelming information amount. He pushes you to know more about philosophy, democracy, other countries, and more. His references to foreign locations are often first hand - he was there!it makes it real

All I can say is that he is definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. His class was the only one that I never had a desire to skip. He's very nice and funny and although we did a lot of reading, the class kept my interest. He focuses a lot on your opinion which helps in terms of your grade

Very smart and passionate man. Definitely a lack of structure in his class though, which makes things sort of confusing. I would take another class of his none the less.
