The structure of the course can be slightly confusing. In CSCI 130 you normally construct a program in class that is slightly applicable to the concepts you will work on in labs and assignments. When it comes time to work on the labs and assignments you will be left wondering how anything works with little to no help outside of Stack Overflow.

Todd is a great teacher and always accessible, as well as understanding. The negative reviews seem to cite CSCI115 as hard because it includes programming, but it's a CS course taught by a CS teacher... If you know anything at all about coding, labs are a piece of cake. If not, Todd's happy to help. Ignore the bad reviews, I loved Todd's teaching.

Pencasts were really helpful and well done. Only two exams-midterm and a final. And he gives you 3 hours to take each exam (in the testing center). Also, you get to use a full piece of paper front and back as a note sheet for the exams. The class requires a lot of work to do well. But if you work hard to learn the concepts the grading is very fair

Todd expects you to know basic programming. CSCI115 was particularly difficult as he believes it's a weed out class. He teaches this one harder. Much of what you learn in this class is not dissimilar to a job order: "go learn this thing, and get it done." Does not put forth info, only when asked. Tough but fair.

You will have lots of homework due to the condensed nature of the online course. Participating in the forum discussions is a requirement, so participation matters. The professor did not really seem to be there for you unless you asked questions, even then he says to read the book even after already doing so.

OK, here is the deal, if you have background in coding and know a decent amount amount go ahead and take this class. If you know nothing about this language try it at another school. The coding teachers here are a joke. Especially Todd. He thinks you should be an expert in coding already. Umm, that is why I am taking this class... to learn how!

Does not care to truly help his students. He will just inform you to read the book, after you already have. Lazy in the sense that he will not go out of his way to help. I am in Engineering and was told a class like this would be a good filler, and he is not understanding that NOT EVERY STUDENT TAKING HIS CLASS IS A CSCI MAJOR.

He is NOT understanding. He thinks and makes it known that he is better than you and always will be. He will NOT go out of his way to help you and further explain things. You will get responses back such as "Read this section in the book.", after you explained that you already did! He is very good at tearing down students.

Todd is a very knowledgeable individual, but he comes off as condescending sometimes. He is a very tough grader when it comes to the assignments and homework. Every week he does an in-class quiz, which is meant as easy points. However, they are always loaded with complex and tricky questions. If you're a CompSci major, you may like him. I did not.

Todd doesn't know how teach, he only gives assignments and labs with no answers. Ask for help and he will answer with questions back. You have no materials to learn from only the book. Why would I take a class if the teacher doesn't help. I can read a book by myself. He cares nothing about his students.

Not only is this guy super arrogant and pretentious, he's also a terrible teacher. He doesn't teach hardly anything. It's 3 labs a week and reading a chapter on top of multiple coding assignments and a couple huge point tests with few questions. There's very little instructing and it's up to the students to teach thems elves

Todd is extremely helpful -- speak up and he will work through anything you don't understand. He's always willing to help. Homework isn't graded, but skipping it WILL hurt you. Lastly, his labs are done in Java. If you don't know the language, pair with someone who does; those lab points are important.

I wont suggest this instructor to anybody. He is tough on student, arrogant, and not easy going. Whenever you ask for help, he is not willing to help you. He expects that every student is smart and expert in coding which is not the case. If you ask for some idea for midterm or finals he never ever help you. I hate this instructor.

Avoid this teacher at all costs! Be prepared to lose anyall self-esteem in math. Hes very condescending and out of touch. He offers no advice on whats on his midterm and final. Will not round your grade up or curve. If you go to his office hours or ask questions in class, he will make you feel stupid. His quizzes try to trick you.

I love Todd. He struck the perfect balance of expectation of content and guidance. He is very approachable if you have questions and when answering questions is very clear. I appreciate his high standards and admire his structure and conciseness. I wish I had him as an instructor for CSCI 130 as well.

CSCI115 is not an easy course. Todd was an enthusiastic teacher and definitely knew the material. He glossed over a lot of the material and expected you to be responsible for most of the learning. Do homework and ask questions during the labs and you should pass. My main issue is that he teaches the class expecting you to be proficient in coding

This course doesn't have any programming prereqs. If you haven't had any programming classes, you will struggle. The semester started great, then he assumed everyone had gained extensive programming knowledge. He's helpful, but has a hard time breaking things down to people who have little to no programming experience.
