Comment:
Hard to pay attention since he's very lax and goes on 15 minute tangents not related to the class. Very dry lectures, most of his curriculum hasn't been updated in years. It's not really a hard class, he can be reasonable on papers and giving extra credit on tests. But there is a genuine lack of effort on his part. Steer clear of him if you can.

DO NOT TAKE! he is rude, lecture heavy, gets off topic. class literally revolves around writing papers and watching documentaries. he gets off topic and it is frustrating. WORST of all doesn't use blackboard. really convenient doing classes online when he refuses to learn or use blackboard!! AVOID him at all costs.

Great guy. Gets extremely off topic talking about stories from his life. Very interesting approach to topics and can be very one sided on topics. I recommend, but be ready to take notes and difficult papers.

Very pretentious and rude. It's annoying listening to him go on about his personal life and bash Trump EVERY class. The textbooks are nowhere near what he teaches and not useful. I dreaded going to his class every TTh. The work itself isn't too bad but he just makes the class a bore and a pain to go to. Do not recommend to anyone.

Take good notes and read the readings ahead if you can. He is not as bad as of a professor if you do your work and finish the essays on time.

Dr. Ruddy is a good guy but his classes are pretty lecture heavy. He stands in the front of the classroom and talks to the class the entire time, so make sure you take good notes. He gets a little (sometimes very) off topic quite often, but it's pretty entertaining to hear his stories and what he thinks about certain things. Not a bad class to take

Gives class long lectures and stories specifically/loosely based on the textbook. Essay are extremely easy. In order to pass his tests with a high grade you need to to the excerpt reading. The excerpts aren't that long it's the amount of them that really messes you up.

Really hated this class. I'm sure this professor was a nice guy, but his class was literally the worse one yet. I found him extremely boring and never talked about what you thought he should be talking about. He didn't care to much for being there either it seemed. Its not even that too hard of a class either just dry and boring.

I don't know why everyone complains about him. Interesting class had a 30 min presentation and long paper, but it's all graded easily. Both classes I took for him had a mid-term and final which were open book and entirely writing. He's funny and cool take his classes.

This guy is honestly hilarious. He is very liberal and goes off about FOX News every chance he gets, I am a conservative and its still very funny. You only use the textbook when there are tests and there is no homework. Overall if you want an easy class that all you have to do is show up and do minor work this class is for you

This guy is genuinely the worst professor at Oswego. He's unhelpful, and pretentious as all hell. He needs to retire and IMMEDIATELY. His tests and papers are pretty easy, but mark my words: you will REGRET taking this course. He's a horrible person and will make fun of you for anything and everything.

Grades papers VERY easily. That being said, the class is one of the worst I've ever taken. He's boring, and all he does is lecture you for 80 minutes about things that are rarely even in the material. He's pretentious and acts like he's better than you at every single turn. Although the material is fairly easy, you'll regret taking this class.

Unorganized, but ended up being a pretty good professor for state and local government. Had two open book tests, a presentation, 3 short papers, watched tons of movies and half of the time he forgot to do attendence. Would take him again.

Ruddy is very liberal and very funny. This class is relatively easy. All he does is read off slides the entire class and his stories he tells in between are hilarious. Hes a good guy and I do believe a lot of what he says is in the students benefit. Must read textbook, atleast key words in chapters that the tests are on. Only 3 tests and final.

Only graded on attendance, 3 tests & final. Can't really miss class. Notes are all online. Watch a few movies in class. Must read all materials for tests. Tests are on notes, movies, & both textbooks- lot of info to study. Not too hard of a class as long as you read. Sometimes goes on tangents but not too bad- class is kind of long.

Professor Ruddy was excellent. People that negatively review are those who don't do the readings, or accept the work of a college course. He was a wealth of knowledge and a hardcore liberal. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't take his class if you aren't prepared to work for your grade.

we could only miss one class, and it would drastically affect our grade. I missed a couple and still ended up with an A. so easy, basically no homework, he doesn't really follow a syllabus. kind of boring class, but easy A.

Ruddy was very intimidating. However, there were times in the class when we had laughs. Note: DO NOT use your phone or mess around on your laptop in class because he will crush you. I learned virtually nothing in this mandatory class since the slides he read off were already online, I taught myself the material. Good luck, you need to read to pass

Garbage professor. Arrogant, teaches nothing, and talks about his pathetic life which no one wants to listen to. I was kinda interested in politics but a one sided view teaches you nothing more than you would receive on CNN.
