Professor Kay is one of my favorite professors so far. She genuinely cares about her students and her class is very enjoyable. While her class may be a little reading heavy, it does not take up a majority of my time compared to other classes. Also, studying is not needed as she does not give any exams (for this class) and only assigns 5 papers.

Kay is honestly a sweetheart, but she really likes to give a lot of homework. If you aren't into reading, especially the newspaper and talking about how an article connects with history this is not the class for you, however, her lectures are very interesting. She really likes class involved discussions and is one of my favorite professors so far.

She a very good professor one of the best in the history department. It is mandatory to complete assignments as directed and to attend every class. Playground excuses don't not cut it with her!! She is a tough but fair grader. Good grades are earned with her. Do not take her classes if you are not a history major not a easy pass for elective.

She is the best in her field hands down but that being said she expects the best from you as well! She is not the professor to take if you are not in the History degree Program so do not consider her for an easy elective!!! Very tough if you don't not love history. If your in the History Program is is the best advisor you can have!!!!!!

I took her class as an elective, thinking that since I love history, I would also love taking a post 1945 American History class with Kay. WRONG! Her guidelines for what she expects for her four (long and hard) papers, are extremely unclear and she gives little to no help for preparation for the final. Also, she gets rude when asked questions.

Her class is not as easy as you think, but she is very helpful when in need. She likes to get opinions and will count that as participation grades in the end so I would advise you to talk if you want a grade boost. Nice teacher and all. Did great on her papers just not so well on her tests. I got the grade I deserved, but could have done better.

She's nice enough and always has good lesson plans and clear notes, but make sure you participate and do the readings! Beware of pop quizzes on the readings! Fair grader, but I live in fear of making her mad.

Really great professor. She's so passionate about teaching and about history, it's just written all over her. She's also a very busy woman and yet she found time to answer my emails promptly or set up a meeting time that worked for me. Very fair grader and hands (fairly lengthy) essays back in record time! I absolutely recommend Dr. Kay.

Excellent professor who guides your learning. Does not spoon feed you like some professors do, nor coddles those who do not want to learn. If you participate and do the work you will have no problem. I would recommend any of her classes.

She is by far one of the best professors around! I look forward to going to her class every MWF! Write 2/3 paper assignments on books, final research paper and also a Final Exam. Engages students adequately, would RECOMMEND.

Dr. Kay was fantastic professor. She was always very helpful and kind, both in class and over email. I only skimmed the readings and got along fine. The work isn't hard, just small assignments weekly. She was very understanding when I missed one, as well. She graded papers easily, too. The class was great with her and the topics always interesting!

Basically the course entails students to be in a "book club" for the entire semester and must read an entire book per week in order to have a class discussion. Online posts about your reaction on each book due weekly but they are simple. Other then that the capstone paper of 15 pages is recquired but professor is easy grader overall

I took this class because I thought it would be an easy gen ed, especially since I got an A in american history after 1865. Wrong. Her tests are completely unfair, and she grades papers unfairly too. She was rude to students who asked questions, and her lectures weren't helpful at all. I hated this class and didn't learn a thing.

She is really quirky and does tend to babble, but this class was really interesting. She grades super easy and is extremely helpful- whether over email, after class or during office hours. I never really read the book, but it's helpful in order to have the class discussions, but there aren't any tests to worry about. Take this class with her!!

I took an American Medical History course in 2002. We had to write a research paper on a topic that interested us. It was the most fascinating course I have ever taken. I've read the other reviews from other students and was surprised. I would add she expects the student to read the textbooks and or biographies. Awesome teacher!

She is a really hard grader and will treat you like an idiot if you challenge her grading even though you're right. She lectures really weirdly, pausing in random places, talking in varying volume and speed, and gesturing WAY too much. Not a fan!

She teaches a fairly simple class. she passes around a sign in sheet, the same one for most of the semester so if you miss a class, just sign in the next one. homework consists of reading a book, which you dont even have to read because u can judge whats going on by the pictures in it, and the subtitles. theres 3 finals and 2 papers. reccmmended

She has no clue what she is talking about. She babbles about random things during class and then expects you to know fine details from the book for the exams, which are almost impossible to do well on.

Professor Kay is not a bad teacher, but sometimes she talks too quickly. Make sure you check online every other day for pop up quizzes, but she will drop one or two if you miss them. She is an easy grader when it comes to papers.
