Ferleger is a great professor, my favorite at BU so far. The seminars can be daunting at first as Ferlger will read your work to everyone in the class and not hold back on critiques, but if you can get used to that it is a wonderful environment for improving your writing. Taught me new research and writing techniques and he knows his stuff

He knows his stuff and is good at explaining concepts, but he is a really tough grader and the exam questions are really confusing. Class is boring and only a few people actually show up, but even then, it's still really hard to do well because no one ever really knows what he wants. The only B I've ever gotten.

One of the best professors I have ever had. He gives the impression that he is aloof, but with the right sense of humor and work ethic, his class is a pleasure to be in. The work load can be a little heavy, but he grades fairly, and does not expect more from his students than he can give. He really cares about his students!

Louis Ferleger is a very good professor. His biggest downside is that sometimes he talks about himself a little much. But in learning about historiography he offered a great book selection and was very effective in his points. at first intimidating but it gets better and fun very quick.

Hard to gauge. In office hours, he's friendly but seems like he wants you to shut up - it feels awkward. In class, he rambles and bulldozes over people's opinions, often. You have to be aggressive to be heard. And he might dismiss your thoughts as illegitimate anyway. Arrogant. Class was easy, but that almost made it worse; I wanted him to care.

The class itself wasn't bad, but his feedback is terrible. Frequently goes on tangents about his own work or experience.

Not a great professor. Friendly, interesting, but dosen't do a great job of teaching. Gets caught up in lectures in talking about his own very personal views and looses sight of facts. In discussions, he is very open to conversation, which is nice. But he likes to keep the conversation moving, so often well leave some topics half discussed.

I thought this class was going to be very interesting but Professor Ferleger chose boring topics. Only the chapter books were good. This class is easier than other WR150 and I got credit for it. I had to write short responses and a 10 page research proposal. He didn't provide much feedback. He did most of the talking and expressed his opinions.

Comment:
This class was pretty ridiculous. Ferleger would ramble on for the entire lecture so taking notes was pretty difficult. The tests were essay format and were so annoying. Too much to write in too little time and too repetitive. Bright side is that he is a super fair grader that is good at manipulating your grade. Guaranteed B- for effort.

If you read the assigned reading, show up to class, take notes on the lecture, and can write an informed an analytical exam, you will get an A. If you can't do those things, you probably should be majoring in history. Ferleger does not make his classes easy, but he certainly does not grade arbitrarily. His classes were two of my favorite at BU

Professor Ferleger is a terrible professor. He is unbelievably arrogant and not to mention B-O-R-I-N-G as they come! Tests are insanely difficult and on top of that, he is a difficult grader. Makes it hard to do well. Not recommended.

Prof. Ferleger is the man. My 377 class was small and kind of intimate so he got ot know everyone of us. He's a relaxed and funny guy who really knows his stuff and truly cares about his students.

Prof. Ferleger will not beat around the nice little bush for you. He gives it to you straight, which can be scary...but very necessary at times. I loved this class; the discussions were deliciously stimulating and intriguing every week. The 30pp.paper was very nerve-wracking, but you end up learning A LOT. Plus, he can be a really nice guy. =)

I dont know, ppl in the class seemed interested in what Lou had to say, but I was incredibly bored. The 25pg paper on an economic history of a product was difficult because he didnt actually tell us what we needed to do-he just said "Write a paper on something." That was basically all the instruction we got. Glad he wont be here in the fall. Avoid.

Awful professor. Does not deal well with alternate opinions to his own, regardless of the amount of back-up you have. He is extremely boring and a hard grader. Highly recommend against taking it unless you like sleeping during class. (There is no attendance policy though)

Ferlger is great. Maybe he's intimidating in lecture settings i dont know, but in his colloquia he has a good sense of humor and it's obvious he loves sci and tech. The man knows something about EVERYTHING it's amazing. TON of reading. He wants you to do well and is always available for help.

Not receptive to opinions contrary to his own. Unclear about when readings should be completed. Tests are graded very harshly and arbitrarily. My worst professor ever at BU.

Very set in his ways. Arguing with him in class will get you no where. Has radical ideas about the Constitution and the tests are graded harshly - arguing back for points is tough. Good luck
