I just finished this class which was all online, and it was terrible. 1 assignment and 1 lab due every. Single. Week. The information in this class is hard to understand to begin with and he is not good at explaining it. I had to watch his lecture multiple times to ever remotely understand the content, use the online textbook it helps more

Found the material was very poorly taught on his behalf. The lecture primarily consisted of him rereading the PowerPoint slides with the occasional example on the board. If you arent good at teaching yourself material I highly recommend getting a tutour early on if you want to do well in the class. Assignments were mainly online which sucked!

Dear Mr. Morphy, You have disgraced the name of expectations, by failing to provide clear criteria that is not only what you've prepared us for, but what is valuable for the discourse of organic chemistry. Unbelievable. 0/10

He isn't as bad as people say he is. He openly says get the textbook do the examples in it or you wont do well. His exams are fairly difficult unless your diligent and study hard not the last minute sort of thing. Attendance is optional I would say but the textbook is a MUST, He picked a good one for a reason. The class isn't hard just lots to know

Chem 140 requires a lot of memorization, and it's tough. Get over it. Start reading the textbook and stop relying on poor Scott Murphy to force every single thing down your throat.

Dr. Murphy is such a sweetheart! He genuinely does want you to do good, however, I think he forgets that this is all new material we are covering. He rushed through the whole second half of the class - the part that needed more attention. Although I love his humour and passion, his teaching was difficult to enjoy as he sped through new material

Great guy, but a painful class. There is a ton of memorization to be done if you don't truly grasp how atoms and molecules behave and interact. Scott does his best to explain everything simply & clearly and he is a sweetheart about it too, but he goes thru it all so quickly! I'm sure he knows the class is very difficult for a first-year chemistry.

Organic chemistry is a really hard class. It's practically all new material, and the whole course is just memorizing different reactions. Dr. Murphy genuinely wants his students to succeed. He has tutoring sessions once a week and is helpful during office hours. His exams aren't easy and require studying. The final exam was very hard, but passable.

Murphy is a great guy and his lectures are very engaging. iclicker is very very helpful in learning the material because it engages you in each lecture. Sapling assignments are extremely easy, his midterm was fair and the lab portion is super fun! Havent written the final yet but it looks daunting because there is sooo much material to cover.

Murphy was overall a very poor teacher. He lacked passion, and his teaching methods were not effective. Looking back, I wish I wouldn't have gone to class. I taught myself the entire course, along with going to the tutorials. But Murphy didn't help me at all. Went and saw him in his office and seemed very rude. Would not recommend in the slightest.

Wasn't looking forward to this class, but it's probably been one of my favourites. First time having Scott as a prof and he was awesome. Assignments and tests were fair. Final might have been a little long, but definitely not terrible. I feel like I learned a lot in his class. Was always willing to help during office hours too. I'd recommend him!

He is a good guy and the course is definitely becoming more bearable. However, this class is no cakewalk and Scott writes a challenging exam. Memorize the flowcharts/naming and you will pass.

Read the textbook and do the questions in the text. For naming he will give you tricky molecules so make sure you understand all the naming rules. For the final, don't worry too much about knowing the intricacies of all the reactions, just make sure you know the charts that tell you what substances to use to get from one compound to another.

Although this is a hard class, the way he appraoched the course made it even more difficult. All his notes were directly from the textbook, with little outside examples. In lecture he would skip over your questions but after hours he would meet any time and was very helpful and nice. Final was extremely hard and based on info we barely touched on.

Course up until the midterm was interesting, and midterm was fair. however, everything after that was a blur. Murphy does a poor overall job of teaching concepts and explaining the material. Very confusing. And the final was NOT fair, extremely difficult

Dr. Murphy is a fantastic professor. He's extremely helpful outside of class, and genuinely cares about student success. Many erroneously attribute their failures to his teaching, but he gives you all the tools you need to succeed. It's a hard course, so if you don't work hard, don't expect a passing grade. Midterm and final were VERY fair.

Organic chem is a hard class. It is a ton of information in a short amount of time and so it is bond to be difficult, which many unfairly take out on Dr. Murphy. But he does not make the class easier by providing very few examples and making the midterm/final unfairly difficult. His class averages are always ridiculously low. Avoid if you can.

Good professor. His exams are VERY fair. The people who found him difficult and complain about him need to learn they are in university and spoon feeding is something that happened only in high school. He gets a good rating from me. I recommend him.
