Dr. Ackerman's class is one worth taking. We had 9 short papers and 2 terrifying exams-- this class was by no means easy. However, I learned SO much. He gives you a new perspective that you will apply to all future psych classes (and all other classes) Yes, this class might not help your gpa, but you learn a ton!

Absolutely love this professor. Do not skip class as he does not use sakai and writes all notes on a projector (or have a friend give you good notes). Have to pay attention to what he says in class. 2 exams and about 9 papers (second writing course) but the exam questions are USUALLY the same as the paper topics. Really gets to know his students

Literally thought I was going to have to withdrawal, but I am SO glad I didn't. Dr. Ackerman will change your perspective on life. That being said, don't take this class unless ur willing to work. 2 all essay exams and 3 page paper due every week. It's all memorization so take good notes and study consistently. Going to office hours helps as well.

It seems impossible at first. u need to go to class everyday&take good notes-i recorded him on my phone which I HIGHLY recommend. 2 exams on a lot of material. I got As on both purely by memorizing. He grades papers hard but they don't really matter(i got cs on them). In the end I'm really happy I took him. u actually learn in his class. just study

He's brilliant and hilarious, but this class is not easy. You have to learn his way of lecturing. It's sometimes hard to follow him. VERY tough grader, and the 2 essay tests are way harder than the writing assignments. He is extremely picky about what he wants from his students. That being said, I learned a ton from his class and am glad I took it.

I like when a class is hard because it challenges me but his class is just ridiculous. He is very specific in what he wants but even if you do what he says, he will still take points off. I followed his advice on every paper and still got a low grade. Exams are hard because you have to repeat every word back that he said in lecture.

If you value your GPA or sanity DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is the worst teacher I have ever had at UD. He writes by hand on a projector & it is illegible. Your notes will make no sense & they'll be hastily written. The exams are impossible and all you will do is sit in class and try to follow his bizarre thought train! RUN AWAY! You've been warned

My favorite class and Prof I've had here. Really knows what he's talking about and makes sure you understand as well. He is also absolutely hilarious. The course is challenging but informative and inspiring. You will definitely learn how to form arguments. Lots of reading that you must complete in order to do well. Don't pass this opportunity up!

In 50 years when I'm old and can't remember my husbands birthday, I will remember Ackerman's lectures. He is the most amazing professor I've ever had. I've never worked harder for a B, but I learned so much from him that I'm not even disappointed in the grade. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. It will change your perspective on life.

Professor Ackerman is THE BEST professor at the university. Hands down. If you don't have him, you are not a true psyc major/minor. I have learned more from him than any other professor could tell me about ANYTHING. The great thing about his courses are that they're not just about psychology, they're about the world and our society as we know it.

I'm not sure why people say his class is so hard. I thought it was a breeze - all you really have to do is take definitive notes and memorize them. Of course the essays too, which are very, very subjective. I followed the same format of a perfect score paper and received a 75%. He likes to speak in circles, he's not very helpful, but it's required.

Ackerman is an incredible professor. Makes you rethink the way you view the world and learn how to think critically and write effectively. Grades on improvement, with not much weight on the papers. Tests are extremely straightforward so with a lot of effort, it is possible to do well. Take any of his classes, you will not regret it!

Love this professor. Definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken and the material is at a grad school level. BUT he is a funny, awesome guy with really interesting things to say and is extremely fair with grading. If you work hard and are smart you'll do fine in his class and you'll learn a ton

Definitely not an easy prof. He is so smart on the subject and you really will learn a lot from him. He is entertaining and class was a blast. Still, he wants a lot of memorization and there are 8 papers throughout the semester, plus a midterm and the final. He grades on improvement, whatever that means. He goes through the material pretty quick.

Easily one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. His class is hard but his sense of humor makes it tolerable. I worked my ASS off (10 hours a week and 20 hours the week before the test) and got an A-. I learned more in 1 semester with him then I have in all my other classes combined.

This was a very difficult and time consuming class. However, Ackerman is very smart and interesting to listen to. However, all of our grades were essay based which seemed rather subjective. As far as I know the majority of my class got Bs. It is very difficult to get an A in his class. Don't take it if you do not have the time to devote.

As a class its easily the most interesting class I've taken at UD, but as is often the case, the best classes are the most work. A ton of reading is required for 8 short essays you write throughout the semester, and the tests are very hard. Take very very good notes and then memorize them verbatim. Also, he has a ridiculous sense of humor.

By far the best/hardest class i have every taken at UD. Ackerman's class will always you to growth as a student and individual... The material is extremely interesting and at the end of the day the hard work was worth EVERYTHING. You'd be missing out of a REAL college course if you didnt take a psyc class with him. Nothing else like his classes.

Dr. Ackerman is by far the best resource in the UD psych dept. You'd be crazy not to take advantage of it-- I took 3 classes with him. Yes, you will work hard, but he's fair, entertaining, and you'll learn tons. What else are you looking for if that's your major?
