Richman was one of my least favorite professors. She was incredibly patronizing, gave mediocre and boring lectures, and graded exceptionally harshly just for the hell of it. She seemed to genuinely take pleasure in being a "toughie" but rather than being challenging, she was just obnoxious.

She is nice, but thinks whatever her conception of Gandhi's thinking is what justice is. She thinks professors can solve the world's problems when quite frankly they support elites. She made interesting analysis of Gandhi's nonviolence paralleled with the civil rights and environmental movements, but doesn't discuss other movements.

Professor Richman is a great scholar in her field, but not the best professor. Her grading is obscene, and her lectures can get a bit repetitive. Also, her attendance policy is so discriminatory! I got very ill and actually had to leave the hospital to go to class because the absence would negatively affect my grade.

You MUST take a class with her before graduating. Her lectures are so enthralling and class so engaging that you won't realize it's time to go until she announces class is over. The readings are interesting too. She grades harshly-so go to office hours and ask how to improve your writing and prepare your ass off for the exams.

Professor Richman not only is a brilliant scholar in her field, but she teaches with an inspiring enthusiasm that makes the material come alive. She is a tough but fair grader and with hard work, it is possible to do well in her class. One of my favorite professors at Oberlin- don't wait until your last semester to take a class with her.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. She's an Oberlin alum, and knows the ways of Oberlin really well. Her course is very well planned out, and builds upon the previous material effectively. She knows what she's talking about. You cannot slack off in her class, but she puts so much effort and enthusiasm into it that you'll never want to. I LOVE HER!

Passionate about her subject, will make you feel the same. An "A" from her is a real achievement, and if you get one, you know you've done something of high quality. And she wants you to do well- I've learned so much from her. You'll work, you'll learn, you'll love. Never boring, always on top of her stuff. Also very endearing.

by far the best, most rewarding ever.so engrossing, so inspiring.she gives you so much scope to pursue any aspect of the material you like, and encourages original thought and discussion, but at the same time retains control over the class.what an encouraging, resourceful lady, who is committed to making the class meaningful in any way she can.

I recently finished my Ph.D. in Biology. But Richaman's religion class, which I took at Oberlin about 10 years ago, remains the best class I ever took and she was the best prof I ever had. I took this class my first year and I can honestly say that it was Richman who made me a good writer.

Professor Richman was the best professor I've ever had- and I later did my master's at an Ivy League school. The quality and quantity of her feedback is amazing. Her assistance in making students write high-quality papers is far, far from typical. TAKE A CLASS WITH HER.

This class is kicking my ass. Miss Richman is a good lecturer- clear, focused, and concise, and she cares about her students and makes herself accesible. Passionate about the Ramayana. Tough grader and expects a lot. Pretty eccentric. Very much a historian.

Really cares about her students, and is personally invested in making sure people really learn. She literally spends hours and hours meeting individually with students even though she's the dept chair. An Obie herself, she really knows what OC is about.
