Comment:
Dr. Barefield is a very nice woman, but due to her health issues, she can be a bit unorganized and can be late in returning graded assignments. I took her for Middle English and I wish we had gotten to learn more about the grammar and structure of the language aside from just reading the text, but overall she is a good professor.

Laura Barefield is an amazing professor! She is very passionate about her discipline, and will spend a lot of time helping you progress in the English field. If you want to deepen your understanding of Medieval and Renaissance Literature, I recommend taking one of her courses.

I was taking her Medieval Women Writers class which is something I'm not interested in. She is a fine professor and grader but her lectures are extremely boring especially if you are not interested in the material. Participation really effects your grade and she makes you do group work. Most of the homework is just reading. Does do extra credit.

Dr. Barefield does make you work for your grade, which is good because you learn more than you thought you would. If I were able to take another course with her, I would.

I am going to take Prof. Barefield again this semester because I love her so much. She is laid back, but still gives us a good challenge. Sometimes her instructions are not the most clear, however, I think she wants creativity and is very flexible. Plus, the topics of her classes are just awesome. It's always fun learn history and lit :)

I never thought I would love a required linguistics class but it was fascinating. She was always willing to help you figure out the material. Films, websites, worksheets and essays. Made it relevant to our lives.

I've taken three classes with Dr. Barefield and I would take more if I wasn't graduating. History of the English Language and Homer's Epics and Medieval Women Writers (ok, I'm an English major). She makes this accessible and interesting. I learned so much and knowing that women wrote so long ago is inspiring to me.

This class was great. Professor Barefield did a great job of making ancient literature interesting -- she's really passionate about it. Discussions were deep and relevant to today. Translations are really readable and interesting.

Awesome, easy class for an elective. While there is a lot of reading, it's not difficult. She makes the reading enjoyable. Quizzes on reading, though they are straightforward if you read. A midterm and final, and a few short papers are included. I would gladly take this class again!

I've taken four classes with her, and she's one of my favorite professors. She's not going to outright hand you an "A", but she's not a difficult grader, and she's extremely knolwegeable and thorough with what she teaches. She does assign a lot of reading, but if you can at least understand the content or skim it, you'll be fine for the lectures

She's a very good professor. She knows and loves the material. Only reason I got a B+ is cause I got lazy. If you come to class, do the readings, and participate you should get an A.

Comment:
Laura Barefield's classes are slow-paced and minimally engaging. I know of two people who cheated their way entirely through her old English class, and she didn't notice because she values interpersonal relationships (i.e. history dorkiness) over intelligence.
