The nice thing about this class is that every other day you're watching a documentary, and they're usually pretty engaging. The though things are that there's a lot of really dense reading, and Joanne can sometimes lose patience if you don't immediately pick it up. She goes hard, but she's nice, so...? Balance?

Basically if you don't start reading and re-reading everything from day 1 you're going to have some trouble. Learn from my mistakes. She takes her class very serious, she knows her stuff, she just doesn't explain it very well.

She assigns a lot of reading that you probably will not be able to finish. She gives pop quizzes on the readings. Her lectures are confusing and not relevant to the class. Her powerpoints are not helpful. She does not provide any information on what will be covered on the exams. Her exams are challenging but not too long.

Klein is honestly the worst professor I've ever experienced here. She rambles on for 20 minutes about things that are completely irrelevant, her power points are completely useless, and she is completely dismissive if you have a dif opinion than her. Readings are heavy, impossible to finish. Also not about gender race & class in media AT ALL.

Extremely confusing, especially for non-majors. As long as you pay attention and do the readings you should be fine though.

If you can take a theatre class with her, please do it. Her class was a great place to not just learn about theatre, but to do the work and grow as an artist.

Coming from a prestious school, Klein uses lots of big words to impress her students. Also, causing huge confusions. She likes the classroom setting to be extremely dim, which cause students to fall asleep because of her boring power points. She is a knowledgable woman in her field, also passionate about it. But she does not know how to teach!

I took lots of Joanne classes. She is TOUGH, will throw tons of information at you. Do Not Fall Behind! You will learn an absolute boatload. That being said, I felt kind of abandoned by her in class in favor of students with a stronger background in the subject - like she wasn't interested in me because I was taking the classes as a cross-listing.

If ever there was a great professor, it is Joanne Klein. One of her best qualities s that she really listens to her students and values their input in class. I took three classes with her and they all opened my mind. She is an educator who takes that role seriously, and she will teach you. I LOVE HER.

It could have been a great class, but the amount of reading we got bogged down with and the unavailibility of the movies we were watching made it impossible to study. The amount of detail we were expected to know was ridiculus with the amount a material we covered.

I have taken many classes with Joanne, and found her to be enlighting, political, and fun. She knows her stuff and isn't afraid to give her view of the world. I'd rather have a teacher challenge me than hold the same viewpoints, so I encouage anyone seriously interested in theatre to take her classes.

She does the work with her students, which gave me a lot of respect for her. She is brilliant, an respects opinions of others. Don't let her own opinions stop you from brining your own, she enjoys a good challenge.

She may know what she's talking about, but the idea of her class is not to educate, but to indoctrinate the student to her ideas of media control and deception. Definitly not a study of film theory, as I was led to believe.

WoW!I strongly encourage everyone to take a class with her! She is a tough act to follow, has a distinct personalnity, and is a hardcore feminist. She also has one hell of a vernacular mastery too! Warning: Way way Post Modern professor
