I really enjoyed this class. There are readings before every class that you MUST do!! I cannot stress that enough. She will call on people. Luckily, they were all pretty interesting. You have a project at the end, which could be anything from a paper to a board game. Just be careful, she messed up my final grade, but thankfully she changed it.

She assigns too many overlapping assignments with lots of reading. Be ready for surprise quizzes on the reading and don't fall behind on the work or else your grade will suffer. Not very helpful unless you talk face to face with her outside of class. Nice lady, not a very effective professor.

At first, Prof. Holt-Fortin seems intense. Really she's not. While you do absolutely need to read for her class, most of what you read is pretty interesting! She's very funny and so long as you do the reading, you will do fine on the quizzes. If you have problems she is more than willing to help. She is one of my favorite professors! :)

She is a great teacher. I really enjoyed taking this class and I learned so much. She has very high expectations and it is a lot of hard work, but she is very helpful about everything and anything. She gives pop quizzes which are easy if you actually do the reading. Definitely recommend here to anyone who would like to learn a lot! .

Makes you memorize authors names, gives random pop quizzes that are difficult, gives no information on writings for class, expects way too much from students. I was always on edge in this class for fear of a random paper she never talked about being due that day or her walking in and deciding it's time for a pop quiz.

AMAZING. Do the readings and use your brain to contribute to class discussions and you will do well. I had Cher for quite a few classes and I love her! She's incredible interesting & willing to talk with students outside of class. She will clarify anything that you don't understand and doesn't make you feel idiotic.

A lot of reading and films, some boring. Pretty easy class though, a few fairly easy papers, and one project with a lot of leeway. Make sure you read, preferable twice, in order to pass the quizzes; you have to ID the author, the work, and its significance, given only a quote or character or possible a setting. EXTREMELY helpful prof.

I loved this class! Great exposure to minority literature. Make sure to read everything you're assigned (which is easy since almost everything is interesting). She has a lot of knowledge to offer and, although she seems intimidating at first, she is kind and willing to help you. Go to class and read everything (even the not so interesting stuff)!

Not exactly an easy "A", Dr. Holt-Fortin is still happy to give partial credit on tests and allowed our class an extra-credit essay. She very obviously knows a lot about Tolkien, the focus of her class, and about all of his work, scholarly and otherwise. We had two projects which were interactive with the rest of the English department.

Holt-Fortin can be a lot of fun if you let her. She might talk a lot, and require a lot of reading, but you're in college for a reason, damn it. She is extremely personable, extremely flexible, and very, very helpful if you're willing to give some ground yourself. I recommend her.

This professor is very knowledgable, but doesn't know how to introduce students into the material at all. You waste a lot of time on history, but it hardly relates to the readings. Huge focus on Middle East, lots of Poems and Authors. Very Hard Grader! If you have a lot of time to read then you might get a B-

Good teacher but not extremely interesting. it seemed like she had the first half hour of class planned and then winged it for the rest. We probably spent at least half the class sitting waiteing for her to come around and talk to us individually. There are a few papers not too hard. I never enjoyed going to class.

I also had her for World Lit. She's awesome! She's very into the material, which may seem a little boring at firts, but if you give it a chance, it's pretty cool. She expects you to pay attention and come to class. She is also interested in students' opinions on texts. Very interesting, awesome teacher!

shes okay. I drift off a lot in class because she fails to keep kids' attention. I think she knows this too, because she'll call on you if you look away from you book for 2 seconds. I hate the fieldworking paper, she expects you to visit your site all the time, but we have lives outside of the classroom!! The work is easy though good 4 eng 102

i think she's a really cool lady. she gives assignments on a regular basis but they are quick and easy and as long as you have them done you check full credit. There are a lot of papers but they are on anything you want to write about. I would definitely suggest her for English 102.

I took a specialized studies class with her, and it was ok. We just spent class time talking about what we had read, it was fun most of the time. If you're going to take her class, make sure you're willing to read a LOT and know what you're talking about. No tests, and there were just short weekly writings, with 2 major papers. Pretty good class.

If you enjoy reading and would like to expand your horizons with different authors, take this course. I found it easy, and she was always willing to help students during her office hours (don't try to talk to her before/after class). I recommend this course, just know, it's an English course, so there's going to be reading.

Boring class. She reads the assignments during class, even when we are suppose to have them done BY class. Gives random pop quizzes about readings. Very unfair grader and could care less how you do in the class. She doesn't offer any extra credit, just suggests "you do better on the other paper." You only write TWO papers! Ugh - Avoid teacher.
