excellent instructor! Just make sure you study a lot for the lab and do well on the lab exams. For the lec, study his notes and use the book in conjunction to fill in any gaps. Also, ask for help if you need it. Advice- on the lec exams, spell everything the way he wants it, ie "sea jellies, NOT jellyfish" =)

He is an easy and okay teacher. He has a weird sense of humor and is quirky. Test are fairly easy, although is harsh in grading. Lectures can be boring and some irrelavant. Make sure to take notes b/c he can talk fast. Is straight forward on what he wants students to know. Has study guide. Labs are dumb and make sure to do well on quizes.

Great teacher. Take notes!!! Study notes+study guide in lab appendix for midterms/final. He's very helpful. Study for lab quizzes and try to get an A in the lab portion. A++

Great teacher. Very friendly and his lectures are very entertaining. Great sense of humor and very easy teacher. Def. consider taking matson for bio2. Tests should be easy if you attend class and pay attention to the lecture.

I found Matson's simple approach to a simple course appealing and welcome, frankly. There are too many **** teachers as it is who make things harder than they ought to be. You guys need to quit whining; take some organic chem or upper division courses, then let's see if you continue to **** and moan about "too easy" teachers.

Look at old tests, use his study questions as a study guide and memorize what you can. Tests are based on his lectures. Pretty much an easy A if you go to class and study before the tests.

A beautifully done basic introduction to Zoology. Sure, it could be more difficult - just study old tests - but it covers the right material and gives people a positive experience with college science instead of trying to "weed" people out of the major. You can tell Matson cares about the subject.

This class is a joke. Matson teaches it like high school. Lectures are super-boring and labs are useless. Exams are pretty easy, but don't put your own opinion in it. Just write down whatever he tells you in class, whether you agree or not.

Dr. Matson is a former high school or middle school teacher. It shows. Class was too easy and not challenging. He tried to make a joke of the word "gingiva": "Kind of sounds like a DIRTY word!" he crowed. High humor? No. Mammalogy was primarily taxonomy with little attention to ecology, behavior, physiology, current research, etc. Boring.

At first, I thought the exams are going to be hard, but it turns out that they aren't. They are so straight forward and rediculously easy; if you can answer all his "warm up" questions given 5 mins before each class starts. His exams were jokes. He recycles his exam (word for word) every 2 semester. You have to be a****to fail his class.

A very good, often easy teacher. The way to pass the exams, which are really the only grades in the class, is take good notes and just study those because that is all that he tests you on (hint: don't add your own insights into the exam, you'll get marked down). He also doesn't do favors, so don't ask.

Make sure you have last semesters exams to study from. You'll ace the class if you don't slack off in lab nad have the exams. Lab is easy but don't procrastinate. The points add up. He's a good personal mentor and an overall nice guy. He doesn't do favors. You get the grade you earn.

Matson is a good lecturer, I enjoyed the class overall, but he is not helpful in office hours and the vast majority of my class seems to think he really doesn't care about his students. He does know his stuff.

Appeared o-kay in lecture but in reality when you go to his office hours for help, not as nice and friendly and questions you alot like why did you not take notes or read the book. Exams were okay. Alotta info to memorize for sure.

This class was a piece of cake. The tests are easy, all from the lecture and show a startling similarity to the previous years test. The field trips were a blast. He seems kind of thick headed but knows an incredible amount of information on animals. You'll learn a lot. Good fun if you are into animal bio.
