Worst experience I have ever had with a prof. He was disorganized, confusing and very self- absorbed. Take any other class without this prof.

Jim is brilliant, but struggles relating with students. This class requires a daily blog, 2 research papers (each over 2,000 words), a presentation, and a comprehensive final exam. He requires the use of Scrivener (for the papers) - a program that is difficult to learn/frustrating to use - and weekly snapshots of your progress up to the due date.

Worst prof I have encountered. tons of reading, you will read the entire new testament in 102 plus his own written work which I think is pretty arrogant. Like why not dive into some JI Packer, someone who actually knows what there talking about? I still have no idea what this course is actually about...

No textbook so therefore made "info sheets," which realistically are just long rabbit trail charts that leave you wondering what you actually learned in the class, that is if you actually are able to understand them. Gave up reading them the first week. Lectures are long and half the time are not even relevant to the course itself.

Tries to make the course relevant, but in his effort to do so he just makes things super confusing. No textbook for his class "for your benefit". Instead we have "info sheets". Most confusing things ever. Everything is unclear in his class. Make sure you have tough skin. Has that whole "I'm boss" mentality. Like, why? Two exams, a paper, the usual.

For the first time in my University education, I came out of a class wondering whether or not it was worthy my time and money. It was a waste of both. In big Universities where you have more options, I would have taken the class from a different prof.

Comment:
He spends the whole lecture reading from his daily journal instead of discussing the course content. He has unfair expectations of students, and has no awareness of if students are engaged or not. His assignments are nonsensical. I can truly say I learned nothing all semester; each class further wasted my time.

Needs to improve on teacher-student relations and psychology. An In-service "educational" class on such relations is not a bad idea.

Very confusing expectations and objectives. In my New Testament Theology class, we spent only 10 minutes talking about Jesus in the entire semester. Actually. I wish I could say I learned something in his class, but I can't. I agree with the person who said, "I wouldn't wish this class on my worst enemy."

Great professor. He's changed his teaching style and is intentional about making the course relevant and practical for anyone. He cares about the course and what you're learning from it. Let's you pick your project that's due at the end of the semester. My favorite course so far!

It could've been a great class, but it wasn't. It started out as my favorite class, but by the end of the semester I couldn't wait for it to be over. Professor Scott was extremely unhelpful and round-about in his speaking. Do not take.

Poor teacher. He has unclear standards and high expectations. Assigned work without following up on it. Picks favorites, picks on those he doesn't like. He knows his biblical history but is unable to teach it. Class time is unorganized. This is a "attend the classes or the teacher is pissed, learn the material on your own time" kind of class.

Jim Scott expects Masters level ability and talent, and will pick favorites. He demolishes your work if it is not the highest level of scholarly work, and most people leave the class crying or hating life.

Literally a narcisistic person. Probably has a disorder. I am not kidding you, he is the antithesis of a christian. He has no compassion and no empathy for anyone. He does know biblical history, but he's got nothing in his heart to show for it. It is like vegetarianism being taught by a cannibal to me.

He is a very tough grader, and can be brutal to your ego. More importantly, he is extremely insightful, and can take graduate students to a new level of excellence, if you master what he expects. Only take his graduate courses with thick skin and if you aspire higher. One graduate student said "He's Tuebingen!
