I am really enjoying Dr. J's class. She is very passionate when she gives the lectures, genuinely cares how you're doing. To me she is the ideal prof. The content is really makes you work though so it balances out, lol!

Dr. J is one of those profs that you can say anything in front of. She is a tough marker, but really gets you engaged in what she is saying and makes you think outside the box. Would take this course again.

Dr. J is my favourite professor in university and Sikhism was a wonderful course. She is tough but it's worth it. She really is a wonderful professor and teaches well. Very warm and animated. Always willing to help as long as you ask. She made class fun and interesting. Long as you work hard you'll accomplish a lot.

Course was difficult with a lot of work, but very rewarding because I learned a lot about women in religion. graded on participation, which was hard to do because I found her to be very intimidating, but she is animated and VERY knowledable. i loved the material, but it was too much, assignments were tough. Came out stronger + smarter though!

Comment:
I took Women and Religious Traditions with her last term and the class was seriously boring. I should have seen the warning signs: the class only had 9 students on a good day. One time she invited a guest speaker who did not seem to have prepared for the class at all. Also, honestly, I felt like a lot of the material taught was slightly made up.

Clear, open and engaging, Professor Jakobsh has got it going on! Don't be intimidated by the long syllabus because this course is replete with useful and well-chosen material that illuminates a student's understanding of what it means to be Hindu. Her feminist pedagogy simply rocks. And the notion of students teaching students is great too.

This course has way too much work for a 300 level course if you enter it be prepared to work your butt of or you wont survive.... and if you have any other classes that term especially ones that require any amount of work good luck getting through it

well it seems like she's made up at least 99% of the good comments here, because none of them make sense as they are certainly not characteristic of her!

A very clear and engaging prof. Being in her class will make you have fun learning again, because of her lecturing style. Classes are important to attend so try not to miss them, as it tends to get on her nerves, but she means well. A very well spoken prof...it is a priviledge having her teach!

A pretty easy class. I never talked in class, or read for that matter, and I did okay. She's a feminist and scared the crap out of me. That about sums up her RS 261 course.

I've never left a comment on this site before but I just have to -- the previous comments were uncalled for! This class is challenging, but it teaches a lot if you're willing to learn. I don't talk in class, but I've done just fine. You can learn from the materials if you connect the dots -- the prof isn't there to baby you! Not bird, use brain.

Never take this class! she is a horrible person and a horrible prof. If you are not a feminist then you probably will not do well. Also if your not one to talk in class, you probably will not do that well.

Probably one of the worst religion courses I have ever taken. I thought i would really enjoy it before the semester began but I was wrong! I learned about the status of women in religion based on the readings that we did outside of class. Her lectures are useless and if you are looking to learn in lectures do not take this course

Very nice and passionate about her subject, but it seems like she's used to a class of 20 equally passionate RS students instead of 200 mildly interested students coming from all faculties. As such, she was a bit high strung on occasion. Regardless one learns a great deal of very useful and fascinating information about foreign cultures.

Prof. Jakobsh is one of the nicest profs I've had. Very approachable. This is a great class to take if you enjoy discussion. You will do well if you enjoy the material. Fair distribution of grades and reasonable workload. Higly recommended!

I was very disappointed with Dr. Jakobsh. Her lectures were as short as she could possible make them, she was dull to listen to, and she relied way too much on other sources such as the videos to teach us. I didn't pay $250 so that she could slip a video into a VCR and hit play. Laziest prof. ever!!!

I couldn't believe it....the videos she passed were awsome, the book we had to read was very informative, but her lectures were dry, unclear and completely unorganized. I never thought such an interesting subject could be taught so poorly...
