Emi is really nice, wants to help and see you succeed. My problem with the class is GENKI- it's so SLOW compared to other JPN, I'm behind now going back to my old class. You have to be an actor for the speaking, i hate that. As other reviews on her RMP profiles say: relies on the textbook, you teach yourself, she grades EZ. Use tutor, do HW early.

Ochiai Sensei is so sweet. I took 101 online and it was a TON of work but I feel like (especially for an online class) I learned just as much as I would have if taken in person lectures. She does send out an email before class starts that says you should take it in person if you can but all in all she emails back quickly and is always available.

Ochiai sensei is wonderful! The course itself is not to be taken lightly but Ochiai sensei will always be there to help! I took her course 13 years ago and still remember a lot! Would definitely take again

If you are serious about learning Japanese, she is your professor. She may be unclear at times, but she is always willing to help. There will be a lot of work involved, expect quizzes, reading assignments, workbook assignments, speaking tests, writing tests, and more. But if you do the work, the class is invaluable.

Highly not recommend to take online JPN202 unless you have a REALLY STRONG foundation in previous JPN classes. You study the material assigned to you (very time consuming) and take a test every week. Discussions are all typed in full sentences in Japanese. Other assignments and projects will help boost up the grade but they are tedious and long.

She is an absolutely wonderful teacher. I really enjoyed (and will continue to) being in her class every day. She's fairly fast-paced and there's a lot of studying involved (which should be fairly obvious, given she teaches a foreign language). Tests are not difficult if you prepare well. Bottom line: the class was loads of fun. (:

Comment:
Don't let the 101 fool you. If you just want the conversation. Don't take this one. It dives into grammar and writing comprehension without a parachute. Recommend conversational Japanese, for the faint of heart.
