Definitely recommend having a phl background before taking Dr. Miller's class! Readings are a lot and discussions can be boring, but she's super approachable and willing to work with you. Paper-heavy but she gives great feedback and is a pretty fair grader. Final project is a work of conceptual art. Take her if you have time to analyze things!

Dr. Miller is amazing. We read seven different existential works during the semester and she always did a great job explaining them. This wasn't my first PHL class--and I wouldn't advise it as a first--but I still felt like it was accessible. Also, she contacted us with an opportunity for extra credit reading before the semester even began!

Took existentialism as my first philosophy class with her. There are papers, short or long, over every book you read. Very unclear on what she is teaching, tells you one thing one day then the next tells you the opposite with no seeming recollection of what she said the previous day. Her paper grading seems subjective and reflects if she likes you

She's the only Professor I've had that is actually interested in what the students have to say. I'm not super into Philosophy, but she set the class up so we could all talk about topics together and it really helped. She spoke to us like a peer and I absolutely loved it.

Just took this class during the summer and that was so hard. So many materials, put effort on it but did not get satisfying grade. Would not recommend taking this during summer. However, the instructor is really helpful and easy-accessible when needed.

I really loved her as a professor. The papers can be difficult, but if you see her before it's due you should be fine. I thought she made the class interesting and would recommend to take her class!

Dr. Miller is great! She is approachable, clear, and very well-spoken. As a seminar class, she gives us freedom to discuss the readings and give our input, but includes her own perspective to clarify and to teach more complex ideas. Loved this class and professor, but did not like the readings (there were a lot, it got overwhelming)

The class is challenging and tasking, but fairly easy. The readings are a little difficult. If you are not really into philosophy, I wouldn't take this class. I took it as Miami Plan and even though I'm doing pretty well, it is painfully boring and I HATE the readings. She doesn't teach you to analyze and expects you to do well on weekly quizzes.

I would encourage anyone to take this class who knows how to write a proper essay. No exams, just papers. The difficulty of the quizzes vary, but are only worth 10 points. Readings are somewhat difficult but if you just skim and listen in class you'll be fine. Good Miami Plan class!

Dr. Miller is a great professor. The readings are definitely challenging but when you go to class she clears everything up. There are no big exams, only papers. I write my papers using information only from my notes in class and so far I've gotten A's on every one. A lot of opportunity for extra credit. I really enjoyed the class & Dr. Miller.

Agree with previous assertion that she is poor at relating material to students. Speaks very vaguely and expects students to be clear on papers.

The reading was pretty fast-paced and there is a writing assignment due every week, but the topics are very interesting and her teaching is effective. She is very friendly, knows the topics well, and greets new ideas open-mindedly.

Difficult, grad students dominated the class discussion. Paper topics were difficult. Have several philosophy classes under your belt before attempting this course. Tried as I might, the best I could do was a B. Really interesting material though, and I enjoyed much about the class. No midterm/final, just papers and class presentations.
