Good researcher, terrible instructor. Little to no social skills. Accessible outside of class, but when he's not audibly sighing after seeing you in his doorway, he's yelling at you that he knows at least four different ways off the top of his head to solve the integral you're having trouble with. Lectures are incredibly difficult to follow.

Very tough class. Good "sink or swim" introduction to grad school. Very long and challenging homework, but you will learn a lot from it. Always willing to help you during office hours but will make you work for that help.

You are on your own, kid! This guy just 'cowboys it' for his lectures. Has fantastic notes. They are just irrelevant to the class he runs. Tests and homeworks are nothing like either the notes or the lectures. He is a chimera, 'you must pass thru me to get your Physics PhD', which is a shame because he is an awful educator, needs to be replaced.

Comment:
His class is unclear. He just make everything difficult, because he can not explain well. I do not understand why he is the only professor who teaches Physics core courses. He may be a good researcher, but not a good instructor.

Comment:
Schmidt knows his subject but has a difficult time paving a bridge from where most of the students are at in their studies to where they need to be. DO NOT drop the class after getting the first test back unless you missed the Schrodinger equation. Chances are the tests will become more curved and you'll end up with a decent grade in the class.

Comment:
Schmidt seems to care about teaching, but still hasn't gotten used to teaching undergraduates. However strong students will find his detailed examples and "leave no stone unturned style" to be quite the pleasure.

Among the top three teachers in the physics department. If you are a truly serious student, then Schmidt is the guy for you.
