Knowledgeable in Sociology and clearly loves to teach it although the lectures may seem long at times. If you need help or more clarification, ask for it, he will be more than happy to help you. Fair graders and fair with the work he gives. Overall, wouldn't say it's the easiest class ever, but it is definitely up there!

Great professor. He's smart and knows Sociology. Lectures are very interesting, exams are difficult but take home! Plays by the book, but he's fair.

Honestly, just go to class. He will recognize you and like you better if you participate and if he sees your face every class and doing that will definitely improve your grade.

Very passionate about sociology. Knowledgable and is willing to help you. Texts are difficult, he will help you take them apart and understand them. An outline is due each week an online journal is not. Both assignments help you take apart the text and teach you how to tackle them. Exams are take home but very time consuming. Read & you'll be fine.

The good thing about Esser is that if you're not a sociology major, he's got no clue who you are. That said, I hated the Corporate Scandals class I took with him (team taught ILC with Buddensick). Dry lectures, difficult midterm/final, on top of that class was 8-11 AM on Tuesdays. Stay away, or leave class early every time.

Takes attendance. A pretty easy professor with knowledge about sociology. Truly made the subject interesting. Papers and tests are easy. Most homework are just copying definitions from the book. Made me really interested in sociology.

I graduated in 2002 with a degree in sociology. The first class I had with him, crimnology, was boring. However, after taking many classes with him,I found he was more enjoyable and very fair. When I was a senior he helped my partner and I with our thesis reseach because my mother was in the hospital.Hes a great teacher, just get past criminology!

His mannerisms are the most interesting part of class. Does not make a real attempt at getting to know his students- his class is ok, if you are really interested in the subject. Nothing extraordinary though.

I have had Dr. Esser as a teacher twice. He is really nice and very helpful if you go to him with any questions. His classes are pretty fair and there isn't a huge amount of work. I think he is a great teacher but having said that, his memory is terrible so stay on top of things and you should be fine
