Comment:
Lectures were almost nonexistent and offered only explanations for the simple aspects of each unit. Homework was difficult, quizzes (1 each week) were EXTREMELY difficult and no partial credit was given. Prepare to fail the course if you take her during the pandemic unless you pull all-nighters trying to figure everything out.

Burnham used the fact that she was the head of the course to neglect her students, pushing off responsibilities to the people below her in power. When it came to medical injuries, mental health crisis's, and personal problems, she was cold and neglectful towards students. Used the excuse "I have too many students to grade". Would not recommend.

She is NOT an understanding professor in any way, especially during the current COVID pandemic. I had schedule trouble and joined the class late where assignments had already passed. Her advice totaled to a grand, "Oof, good luck man," and a couple of free zeroes. I understand times are stressful, but it's also now when GOOD teachers shine.

Lots of masteringphysics work every week that are sometimes ridiculously hard, but overall the workload is fair. Really approachable and helpful during office hours and nice person in general. Some parts of the exams are bs, but I got As on all exams so its not too difficult. Overall good lectures and easy to follow.

I would highly recommend anyone to take Professor Burnham with their PH1110 class. It's not an easy class, so don't expect and easy A. However, grading is incredibly fair, as the grading breakdown is crystal clear from day 1 of the term. Explains things very well. She seems a bit intimidating outside of class, so I never went to office hours.

Professor assigned tedious studio work sheets and strictly enforced due times (11:59 PM). Course homework was online and wasn't clearly noted when any of it was due. Late work results in a 0. Tests were graded via "clicker" and offered no partial credit. Class participation was also graded by clicker. Harsh course grader and doesn't speak clearly.

Professor Burnham's teaching style didn't work well for me. Classes (studio style) included tedious graded worksheets and problem-solving sessions that left me with more questions than answers. Her lectures are great! Her conferences were amazing, but her tests were too difficult (and communication about what would be on the test was nonexistent.)

I had her for physics 1110 and she was a really good teacher. The class wasn't hard and it was easy to get an A if you did all the work.

Does a good job of making sure lectures aren't boring, so students won't zone out. Gives clear examples with actual situations. Is very helpful if you need it outside of lectures.

She is an overall good professor. You learn new material during conferences, so if that instructor isn't good it makes the class more difficult. Tests were tough. She scaled the class but not as much as she said she would. Do the work and you can get at least a B.

Professor Burnham has very clear grading criteria, and she's very clear during lectures. Participation is taken into consideration through clickers (devices that allow the class to answer questions without talking). Tests were tough, but she scales them and allows retests if you fail. Put a lot of effort in and you should do good.

She used clickers for my class. That means you HAD to attend lecture, conference and labs if you wanted that 10% of your grade. She was very clear, if you had a question during lecture, she wouldn't hesitate to stop and explain. Tests were sometimes harder than neccessary, but she would grade them on a curve, often making my C into a B.

She can be really mean to rate the homework and you may lose half of the point just because you forgot to box the answer. However she shows the material really clear and she tries a lot to make her class fun.

Tests are too long for the amount of time you have with them and they are about 3 times more difficult than anything she talks about in class. She will ask you graded questions during lecture that she formats specifically to trip people up and is usually really happy when she succeeds in this. She was excited for the class test average to be a 50.

Prof. Burnham was my lecture instructor. She cared about what the students wanted to learn. The clicker questions are the reason to show up for class even if you don't think you need to. She was nice, approachable and even in a lecture setting attempted to make it fun. I would recommend her.

Great professor and I liked the whole setup of the course. It was an easy A but I was familiar with the material from high school. The class did take a lot of work thanks to the daily mastering physics homework (online). I did not find the labs - which we had two of every week, very helpful and more a waste of time.

Gave a good understanding of the mechanics side of physics. MasteringPhysics homework plus conference REALLY helped me understand the material when lecture was not enough. Exams were reasonable in difficulty. The provided practice exams are tremendously helpful to study with. Would recommend.
