Comment:
If you ask this man a question he basically rephrases it instead of actually answering you, and barely teaches (his slides are just pictures) instead opting to have the class 'discussion based' and have students teach each other without teaching us first. Has 'mandatory' field trips and grades cumulatively, & expected me to skip a class to attend.

He is boring. He push u to do a lot of experiment and they are very boring. You are going to do a 8-10 pages report every other week. He dont give u time to do the report in class, all report are on your own. In the experiment he won't help you much. He would tell you do redo it again and again no meter you got or not. This not you want to take.

He's been around forever and is a well of knowledge in Geology. Took us on some interesting field trips to view glacial features which proved worthwhile. He is very particular however the way he wants things done. He uses rubrics for oral and written reports that must be followed precisely in order to get a good grade.

Dont take this class if u are expecting an easy DEC. It is a lot of work and not worth your time if you are not interested. And if you, you probaly won't be after this class. The professor is nice but his exams are too specific and the book is not worth wasting your money on.

Wow...just, wow. Hanson has been doing this at Stony Brook for over 40 years, and the man is *good.* It's obvious he loves his subject, and he has a kind of quiet, room-filling calm that synchs you to his way of thinking. He's very patient and really into conservation and environmental science. Really classy and on the ball. Highly recommended!

Pilot program Geo 301 - "Sustainability of the Pine Barrens." This is Professor Hanson's native element and it shows; he knows everything and is always there for students who need to talk with him. Easy grader, though you must attend classes and go on the field trips if you want a good grade (this is only fair IMO).

Awesome professor. Lectures are easy to understand and the exams are crazy easy. Come to class and pay attention you will have an A.... don't come and you will get an F. It's that simple. Plus... he gives you tons of opportunities for extra credit. Good guy.

The lectures are boring and his tests sometimes are tricky, but overall, it was an easy way to knock off the DEC E. He gives you so many opportunities to make up "Bonus Points" that it is hard to get a bad grade. Just print the notes online and go to the extra point sessions and you'll do well.

If you want an enthusiastic professor, this is not the guy for you. Although knowledgable and at times interesting the lectures are for the most part monotonous and boring. You really need a caffeinated beverage to stay awake through this one. Otherwise, not a difficult class, but not an easy one either-if you can't keep your eyes and ears open.
