I saw the average rating but discarded it thinking I could power through and there was no way she could be that bad. Boy was I wrong, she is extremely lecture heavy and to me it made no sense. I was relaying solely on the textbook and her explanations seemed to be all over the place. She also grades pretty harsh. I would avoid at all cost.

She is knowledgeable and expects her students to be likewise. In her class, she is pretty degrading at times and can make students feel very small for not knowing the answers. Her tests are VERY challenging not so much because of the content but because she will deduct points like crazy for poor reasons and she's not very helpful in preparation.

While Professor Baskan is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject matter, and very nice outside of class, her performance during lectures is mediocre and the reason for so many of these bad ratings. Overall not a great teaching personality, and an incredibly harsh grader. Take professor Martin instead if you can for statistics.

Come to class and ask a lot of questions. Go to her office hours. She's difficult because her tests require you to fully explain your process in a way similar to how she does it in lectures. She curves the course pretty hard.

Honestly, I really like Professor Baskan. She is certainly a tough class in the introductory classes/stats classes where there are tests, but if you take her Financing Healthcare class, she is a much nicer grader on the papers due. Learned a lot from her, but certainly one of the tougher professors.

I thought I could go into this class and be that guy that did well in her course. unfortunately naw.. Had her for banking and fin. institutes and the quizzes were 1 question per 2 chapters in the book every week. it was only hard because you could study everything to a tee and miss a specific point when it comes to the quiz then not get partial smh

Took her macroeconomics class my first semester as a freshman. This class was pretty awful and made me want to drop out of college completely. She would lecture on some very dry material for 1.5hrs and then when test time came around the material on the test would be completely different. Cannot convey material and cannot teach properly.

I have taken Professor Baskan on three separate occasions, and to this day I have three regrets of my academic career. She doesn't respect students as learners and especially does not care about your personal improvement or success. I'm no Einstein but I am a solid B+/A- student and I have achieved an average of C- thus far, BEWARE.

The worst professor I ever had at Allegheny. I have no issue with classes being difficult, but she is truly unfair. Her tests are ridiculously difficult and are nothing like the quizzeshomework and her lectures are miserable to sit through. When i had her, she was responsible for 60% of the F's in the whole econ department. Avoid her at all costs.

Baskan is not a very helpful professor. She makes tests harder than the homework and the averages seem to be in the 60s. When I went to office hours, she told me that people often do poorly on her tests and wasn't concerned. I felt like I learned nothing because I was always discouraged by my bad grades.

Comment:
She is VERY unspecific. She said one thing about her requirements at the beginning of the semester and then switched it right in the middle of the semester. She never actually addressed the topic of the FS class, rather she forced us to discuss things she was interested in (which often tended not to intersect with the topic).

Do not take any of her classes. She claims she's there to help you get better but I went to office hours and her only bit of advice was to tell me I should come to class more when I actually never missed a class. She grades based on how she feels that day, which is never good. Avoid her.

Don't take any classes with this professor if you care about your gpa or get frustrated having no control over your test grades. The average in the class exams usually averages out to be between 60 and 72 and the curve only bumps you up a few points. It's a waste of a professing job because most people know to avoid her classes.

Professor Baskan is horrendously boring. She only talks about the broad topics from the reading but pulls specific questions from the reading for the quizzes and tests. She always believes that she is right and even if she accepts a point of view or a hard fact she does so almost sarcastically. Stay clear. Worst class at Allegheny thus far.

Comment:
Very poor professor. The book was extremely helpful, especially since I had to reteach myself the material on my own. Wrote mistakes on the board very frequently and wouldn't make corrections if found after class was over. I used incorrect equations on exams several times before I caught on and began using the ones out of the book, not the notes.
