Comment:
The professor himself is a good person but the grading system is terrible. Im a straight A student and still manage to get a C. Why? Because no one in my group project did nothing and I had to spend 8 hours doing it, got docked a few points and homework is worth so much and instructions are very unclear. How he word things is confusing.

Comment:
During class: Gives good lectures; responds in class very well. Outside class: Uses websites that update their content, while he does not update his step by step instruction, resulting in major confusion and incomplete assignments. Overall: click bait assignments; tolerates academic dishonesty; slow to respond. FYI: Choose other degree OR school!..

Comment:
I would describe a semester of this class as disorganized. Lectures, slideshow, and textbook ALL CONTRADICT EACH OTHER. Tests are open book, but difficult due to how disorganized or contradictory the info was. I'm graduating soon, I can confidently say this was the worst professor I've had in my entire academic career. I advise you to avoid him.

Took his CS223 Bioinformatics Grad Course. Started liking Biology by the end of the semester. Covered lot of deep learning concepts like HMM, Genetic Algorithms, CLustering techniques, Microarrays and CRISPR(Bio stuff but interesting) Great Professor and great teaching.

Took his CS156 intro to AI class. He's not great at lecturing or explaining things. Also, just throws homework at you without much context or explaining what needs to be done/how to deal with the existing code that he gives you for the homework. Also didn't spend much time on the fun stuff in AI like neural nets. Overall not a great class.

C++: The class was fairly reasonable until he decided to choose advanced topics like AI and bioinformatics for our group projects, which is insane because neither of those are covered in the prerequisites and both actually have their own electives.

This teacher takes forever to respond to emails. After having submitted my prerequisite clearance to him, he never replied and I ended up having to take his prerequisite exam. This exam covered little of the prerequisites for the class and was insanely hard. I ended up failing that test despite having already taken the prerequisite classes.

The most ridiculous crazy instructor that i have every take for my entire SJSU life!! This cs 286 is actually a students presentation class. i did not learn anything from that class. but i did made one friend, Google. for that class it is useless if you read all his assigned articles. if you take Dr. Wesley's course, make Google your friend

Learned a lot about dimension reduction via feature extraction and feature selection, various machine learning algorithms (SVM, HMM). Did not spend much time on performance metrics. extending time on other topics reduced the time to spend on measuring speed, accuracy etc. of algorithms.

Class met using WebEx. Did not need to drive to campus. YEA! Enjoyed learning about preparing business plans, IP, and best practices for making presentations to non technical audiences. Enjoyed participating in the business plan competition. Dr. Wesley is very helpful, and very busy.

We covered a lot of material about feature extraction, genomic analysis, and performance of various machine learning algorithms. Dr. Wesley cares that students learn how to analyze problems and not always assume papers are correct. Exams are not too difficult.

I enjoyed the class very much. I felt I learned a lot about the performance and accuracy of several dimension reduction, classification, and genomic assembly algorithms. We read research type papers rather than a textbook.

Avoid him! Take E10 instead! Worst teacher ever; does not care about student success, only his tenure. No course structure and consistent miscommunication on assignments, tests, and grades. Syllabus was a joke, everything changed by the end of the semester. Nothing learned from this course was used to complete the final project.

This guy is the worst; zero organization, no course plan, syllabus will change throughout, our grading scale changed the last week of semester. He just does not care about the students, his focus is elsewhere. Quizzes & final exam are easy, just memorize design process and project procedures, we didn't really do anything else; no matlab, autocad, etc

This guy is not a teacher because he does not teach his class he has his TA do it. Let me just tell you his lab test are hard his quizzes are easy and midterms are ok....know your definitions and study his slides for the lab exams...other than that not a good teacher so you just have to teach yourself and know how to use linux....

Prof. Wesley is a good teacher. I believe he is passionate about the subject and is very interested in helping students understand the concepts. You will have a good time if you just follow his slides. If you read the book, you are just wasting precious time. He is vague, but you'll get used to it! You can get a B, but don't expect an A!

I don't understand all the negative reviews. Dr. Wesley is probably the best I've ever had. Extremely clear lectures. He explains and answers questions with delight. Shows a lot of CARE for his students. Very understanding grader. Nothing like what the negative reviews say. He's almost like a father figure.
