Professor Castriota inspired me to continue studying archaeology. His lectures were always interesting, and was particularly helpful in guiding through conference work. Brings artifact replicas to class, and even hosted a movie night in Heimbold.

Wonderful, a real gem. An expert on almost any topic from antiquity and knows where to direct his students to readings for their specific interests. A lively character with a rich understanding of connections between different disciplines, such as art and warfare. He loves to teach and is a fair grader. It's a travesty not to take his class.

I took his class knowing nothing about the subject and I left my first semester STILL knowing nothing. The class was supposed to be a seminar, but got overbooked, and turned into a lecture focusing on random parts of Christianity and the Roman Empire. There were no assignments for the class other than reading and midterm papers, that's about it.

Class was boring, there were 40 students but only 15-20 showed up regularly. Castriota is nice but droned on and on, didn't really seem to like when students asked questions, and made an already boring subject (ancient architecture) even more boring. The lectures weren't engaging. Also wasn't clear on when assignments and blog posts were due.

A wealth of information for history. This cannot be overstated. If you like history, he is your guy. However, take heed. When working with him realise that he will go on and on and you have to be bold and speak up to get a word in. This applies to class as well as one on one. If you get into a disagreement, be prepared to stand your ground with him

If you have ANY interest in ancient history and/or art, you are really missing out if you don't meet David. Beneath his eccentrically-badass yet rough, terse exterior, one finds a mind that contains a secret wealth of some of the most fascinating information any true student could ask for.

Before taking David's class my first year at SLC, I wasn't sure I even wanted to study art history. After one of his engaging and mesmerizing classes, I knew I had found my passion. He is extremely helpful along with being one of the most intelligent professors at the school.

David's class was mesmerizing. Two hours twice a week was not enough time. He knows his stuff and Roman antiquity came to life every week. I was able to be the tour guide on a trip to Italy after taking his class. If you are interested you will blossom in his class. Take his class, it will change your life.

David Castriota is amazing. His classes are incredibly informative, and are usually taught more in a lecture style (even if it's a seminar). Conferences can be a bit hard because he won't really give you any direction until you have a solid idea, and he loves to talk. But he knows his stuff and is super helpful. He speaks ancient everything.

Really knows his stuff. Bought me a video game on Hannibal for my conference project. Not the most personable guy, but really a wealth of knowledge and very helpful. Should definitely take a course of his, as he teaches history through art rather than history about art.

David is an extraordinary teacher, the amount of stuff he knows is astounding. Can be kind of an ****, doesn't try to take too much interest in his students. Good as a teacher, not so much as a don. Can be very volatile, always in an argument with someone, and while he is interesting and very snazzy dresser, he's not hot. Not. Hot.
