Comment:
Cobbs is a nice man, but not a good teacher. The homework will take forever but nothing will prepare you for the exams. He lets you drop your lowest test grade but still, with a +/- grade scale a good grade is difficult. His lectures do not prepare you for hw/exams at all. Attendance is not mandatory and the book is useless. Avoid this course.

This has truly been the worst professor I have ever had at UofL and I'm a 4th year. His lectures are boring and hard to follow. His HWs take HOURS to complete and are extremely confusing. We ran out of time during the last third of the class material so now he is trying to race through it, and has assigned 2 overlapping HWs due one day apart. AVOID

Comment:
Dr. Cobbs makes an already confusing course worse than it needs to be. He is always confused and regularly makes mistakes in lecture, in his example packets, and on the homework. His lectures are very hard to follow and the packets that make up the majority of the course content are a jumbled mess. His homework/example explanations are just as bad.

Comment:
This course is already difficult but Dr. Cobbs does a good job at explaining the concepts. It is a hard course and took hours to finish the homework. He does give a large curve because of the difficulty. The final can be used to replace the lowest test grade which was helpful. He is very accessible outside of class.

Okay person, not a great professor. He isn't TERRIBLE, but so far he is the worst professor I've had at UofL. The material and explanations are clear-cut, but god forbid you don't understand something then he's terrible at answering questions and makes you feel stupid by providing an overly simple response. Also, the book he provides is useless.

You need to take notes in this class and look at them when doing HW. Class will be dullextremely difficult without notes. Had 6 HWs. Intense learning curve. You must do on-your-own practice questions to really "get" the class. Textbook is freepdf or $10print. Learned so much in this class. Will be taking another biostats class with this prof.

This teacher is extremely boring and teaches the class like it is on elementary level. If you don't mind studying on your own and never going to class then you should take this class. You barely learn anything in the class. However, a majority of his test question come straight off of the study guide and from the book questions.

Professor Cobbs was extremely boring. I have no interest in science as it is & he made it worse. He literally just reads off the powerpoints that he posts online & doesn't take attendance. No homework, but tests are very difficult, he adds a very large curve. Book is not necessary.

I took biostats 650&671 with Dr.Cobbs some years back, while a grad student in a different dept(social sciences).I have learnt from him by far more than I have ever learnt from any other stats prof I had in US or abroad. The diff b/w my experience & the others' on this list may be in the motivation we had to take the class:It was a choice for me:)

This professor is conscientious and teaches in a very professional manner. Although his demeanor may seem boring, his intelligence and knowledge of subject matter is unquestionably exceeds expectations of biostatistics class.

Impossibly boring; I'd rather watch paint dry. Tests are rediculously hard even if you did study. All of the questions have "all of the above" and "none of the above" as choice so guessing is impossible. Avoid him at all costs. The only plus is the HUGE curve he grades on.

His lectures are like any other biology lectures. If you pay attention and study off from his notes, you would do well. Best advice: study his figures and his homework problems. Good curve!

Cobbs is such a cute old man, and he just makes me laugh. He says some really funny stuff in class, but its interspersed with gouge-your-eyes-out-boring mumbling. Most of the time you can't understand what he's saying, but then he'll randomly say, "If you get sick, I'm going to kill you" in hypothetical conversations between phages and bacteria.

Boring class. All the powerpoints he goes over in class (that's all he does), are posted on blackboard. If you can understand the slides, there's no point to be in class except for tests. Becomes irritated if he has to answer any questions.

Tremendously DULL class so noone ever went. Teaches off powerpoint thats on blackboard, it was obvious he wasnt knowledgeable in the subject. Four tests with an optional fifth. BIG CURVES. I got 70s on all four and ended up with a B+. Gives you practice tests with the answers but they arent much help. STUDY STUDY STUDY

Pretty boring class. He lectures for the entire class, showing slides in a powerpoint. I think he tries to ignore raised hands when somebody has a question. Tests are all multiple choice. He posts powerpoints on blackboard, so if you can go through the slides and understand the pictures, there's really no need to go to class unless there's a test.

Boring subject, boring (yet knowledgeable) professor. Don't let his personality fool you, I spoke with him after class and is easier to talk to than during class.
