Craig Peebles is the worst professor I have ever had. I am a PhD student studying Chemical Biology, and I took nothing from his class except that he dislikes students and has no interest in actually teaching. His class was nearly bad enough to make me reconsider my interest in science. Dull and boring with too-long tests. Take a professor who cares

Do not take this professor if there any other available option. I was in the class for a month before I dropped due to the difficulty. After the semester ended he was removed from teaching the course because he failed too many students, which all had to take a departmental final the next semester to try and get credit.

I do not recommend Dr. Peebles as a professor. He is a friendly guy, but his biochem exams are unreasonably hard if you don't have old exams. I retook it with Peebles and feel that I learned much more with Zapanta/on my own and nothing from Peebles. Tough grader. Told me I would get a much higher grade than I did, does not curve. Disorganized.

I learned a lot in this class and it prepared me excellent for the MCAT. That being said, I scored 25 points above the average on every test and this class still killed my GPA. Test averages were high 50s/ low 60s and he did not curve. Really nice and funny guy, but this class is extremely brutal and a GPA killer.

Worst class I have ever taken. He stands in front of class to read us powerpoints that are just verbatim of the book and wikipedia. The tests are so brutal. He also has the worst grading criteria I have ever seen. You need to get a 60 average to get a C and after taking the final, 50% are not even there. We did 160 points of hw and it doesn't count

While taking this class, I absolutely hated it and thought it was dense, difficult, and dull. It's two years later and I'm in med school and I'm realizing how well this class prepared me. His class gave me a great biochem foundation, and everything we did in this class I'm doing in med school. It sucks, but it's relevant. So power through!

I usually enjoy my professors in the sciences at Pitt, but Peebles was one that I literally got nothing out of. I don't actually feel like I learned anything besides what I had to memorize. Homework didn't help with tests and the only way to finish the exams was to find old exams. I wish I had taken it with anyone else.

Totally unclear grading criteria. He did not even tell us the average of exams and how he was going to curve them. He tests memorization instead of understanding. Avoid if you can!

Peebles is a nice and funny guy. His class is brutal. Exams are extremely difficult. You need to know everything on his long lecture notes. If you don't cheat (find last years exams) you won't get better than C. I didn't have access to last years exams so I was blind sided by his exams. Overall a very hard class.

Cheating is rampant in his class and he knows it. If you are an A student but don't have access to last year's exams, expect a C. You will not be able to memorize the amount of material he expects. Exams are difficult and too long to finish. Avoid at all costs.

Don't let these reviews shy you away from Dr. Peebles, he is a great professor! He is very accessible outside of class, very nice, funny, and extremely helpful! HOWEVER, this class is extremely hard. The amount of information you are expected to know for each exam is outrageous. The lectures are long, but they have all the information for the test.

Dr. Peebles is not nearly as bad as most of these reviews make him out to be. His lectures are very dense and his exams can be tough if you slack off and don't put the work in. He is my favorite professor at Pitt for being so funny, accessible outside of class, and always willing to help. Just put in the time and you will do fine.

Don't expect to get anything above a C unless you memorize his stupidly information-dense slides and the entire textbook. Even then you'll barely be able to get by. Exams are borderline unfinishable due to the shear amount of information he puts on them.

Worst professor I've ever known. Doesn't connect with students. Unsympathetic. Ridiculous exams (and I say this as a 4.0 student before this class) 60 slides a day and HW non-reflective of exams. Got an A in Ochem, Neurophys, Human Phys, but going to get a B / C here. Hardest med pre-req. Avoid at all costs, even if it means waiting a semester.

Not a bad prof but could've done better. The amount of info you have to know come test time is ridiculous, and trust me, if you don't know that stuff inside and out you're going to have a tough time on the short answer section, which is a large portion. Since there is so much info, I wish we got through more of it in recitation. prepare to study

Purposely makes the tests too long to finish unless you REALLY know your stuff. Best way to succeed: literally read and memorize the entire textbook. Topics aren't too hard to understand- the hardest part is remembering the mountain of info. He isn't the most helpful or empathetic. Can be funny, but lots of people really don't like him overall.

I expected the worst, as you probably are. The central issue is that this man throws a mountain of information at you, all via Powerpoint. We got through about 22 lectures at 50-70 dense slides apiece. The difficulty is not far beyond the prerequisite Ochem classes, but of course that says little. I think Peebles himself is abrasive and hilarious.

By far the worst teacher I've ever taken in college, and it's not even close. His lecture slides are impossible to understand, and his exams are the worst things on the planet. No reason to go to class. I knew he was going to be bad going in, but I said to myself, "It'll be fine." IT WASNT. Seriously avoid Peebles at all costs. I barely passed.

Nothing is too hard to understand, really. Remembering ALL the material is the tough part. His lectures are easy to listen to and he offered homework online that helped the overall grade, but his exams are pretty brutal. Only a few written response questions were unfair, though. He just expects you to know EVERYTHING that was covered.
