Comment:
Professor Massoud gets a bad rap for his long classes and tough grading. While his lectures can be dry, Massoud knows his stuff. The homework reading can be long (40-60 pages), making study guides essential. You will need these for his written exams. Additionally, you will have around 7 quizzes based on the hw readings. Take advantage of the paper.

For your sake, do not take this class. Lectures consist of him altering btwn mumbling and screaming, leaving you with no idea what to take notes on. Gives random pop quizzes on readings that no one understands and on the most random details in the 60 pg readings. It comes to the point where I don't even know what to make up on exams bc I'm so lost

The level of instruction was pretty low. Lectures are confusing and hard to follow and often boring. I got Bs on both of the midterms so far and I really had no idea how to do any better than I did even when I went to office hours. I would not recommend taking this class to a pier.

Massoud Is a very ok professor. His lectures are very dry despite his random voice inflections. Lectures are usually not on topic and there are no powerpoints or notes written on the board. Your class notes will not be helpful in studing for test. Lots of reading and pop quizzes are a large part of your grade. Tough grader.

Comment:
Professor Massoud is a good teacher. His class required a lot of reading, but the discussions he led were incredibly interesting and eye-opening. His lectures are interesting, and he is more than happy to engage in discussions about material with his students during class. Watch out for pop-quizzes-- they are often quite specific to the reading.

Legit heinous. He is such a hard grader and you have few opportunities to get your grade up after hard tests. His reading based quizzes are impossible even if you did the readings. Honestly its an intro level class and I'm stressed af.

Tons of reading, lets his opinions get in the way of his teaching, asks vague questions on tests and expects you to know what he wants to hear even though the question doesnt always indicate it, lectures put me to sleep

Comment:
Up to 80 pages of reading per class. Too much information to get into an invested, in-depth discussion. He's passionate, but his lectures border on bloviation. Also, discussions are about events, not ideas. And when there are ideas, we don't tie them soon enough to the events. Overall, very slow-moving content.

Top of the top. Had him for International Politics and Middle East Politics. Still has yet to prove me wrong about 9/11 and the War on Terrorism, but understandably. Had him during a pivotal time in during US - Middle East relation and couldn't have asked for a better professor.

His exams are not impossible to get a B on, but they are impossible to get an A on (The highest grade for our second Midterm was an 89). Also, he expects a TON of writing on his exams, more than is reasonable (in my opinion) in the hour and a half allotted. I'll admit, I learned a lot from his class, but for a 100 level class this was insane.

Very talkative and engaging professor! Because I had him for a res college class, I had a very different experience than most. He seemed to be tough on grading papers but those were really the only grades of the course. He is very helpful and always encouraged us to ask for clarification.

Definitely a great professor. He lectures the entire class but he really does try to keep the class engaged and he doesn't speak in a monotone or anything like that. Looking back I learned so much, and that's what he aims for, not memorization or menial things. Our only turn in things during the semester were 3 tests (no essays, no pop quizzes)

I've had him twice, once for International Politics and once for Arab-Israeli Conflict. I can honestly say he is one of the best professors I've had at Bucknell. Definitely expects a lot from his students and he can be a tough grader but his classes are worth it. The Arab-Israeli class was probably the best class I've taken.

Extremely knowledgeable in his field... I was always impressed with how much he knew. His lectures are very clear. He grades a bit tough, but he also lets you know what he expects from you. Your grade definitely reflects the effort you put in. Overall, he does a great job with the class, and I would recommend him.

Comment:
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: expects you to read over 70 pgs of reading a night (which no one does), grades harshly, didn't learn much other than conflict is very complex (like I didn't know that already)
