Liz is a wonderful woman--a goddess. She holds many opinions and is not afraid to share them, but her wit and inspiration will make you look deeply into texts. The cream of the crop!

I did well in her courses & found her very interesting- she's humane if you get to know her, but her short term memory is poor. Some classmates, gifted in other disciplines (avg. readers, not used to very close reading), couldn't seem to catch on, earned Cs. Very worth taking her courses if you're a lit major. She's sympathetic to introverts.

Comment:
Very relaxed and cares for the students. I missed many classes but she was always understanding. I have taken two classes with her and as long as you put hard work in on the papers (she wants a very close reading) you can get an A. She's extremely knowledgable and sometimes quite insightful and funny. I recommend her Balkan Lit class as well.

Liz is a wonderful professor and a certifiable genius. Do the reading for her class and she'll make it worth your while. She'll get carried away with lecturing if you let her, so if you're getting bored, just offer up an opinion or thought on the reading. She really does care about students (although horrible with names) -- go to office hours.

So much hate on Liz, I don't really understand it! She's very straightforward, in her classes you'll typically have to write two papers and moodle and if you want to talk, she'll let you or she'll deliver a fantastic lecture. Meeting with her is a great experience, also. She's been here forever and knows everything there is to know about Bard.

Comment:
Probably one of the best and worst literature teachers at Bard. There's nothing "to get" about her; she is quite frankly, egotistical and self-absorbed, but she also knows a lot about literature, particularly U.S. Literature. I would say that's about it. Rudimentary, boring, does not really inspire students, but does her job.

Liz knows a lot about the Puritans, and it shows. Class tends to drag on, though I'm inclined to believe the subject matter is to blame, but she can drone. Helpful and clear.

Comment:
She has an incredibly strong body of knowledge about the Puritans. What's more, she is passionate about them. Writing papers for her is a breeze once you understand that all she wants is a simple close reading of the text in which you regurgitate everything she has said in class. Not a great seminar, but a necc. course for understanding US LIT

She's opinionated, but her opinion is worth listening to and reflecting upon. She doesn't put up with half-assed work, and I saw students, who didn't want to throw themselves into the work, suffer in her class. She's human and she cares very much for her students. Realize, however, that she has very little short term memory. It's not personal.
