Gershmans class was the hardest class Ive ever taken. With that said, I think the class really improved my writing and reading. Make sure to do the readings or youll be lost in class

Also had Gershman in HIST1050 this freshman year online. Very difficult class and for a culmination of reasons: 1. Gershman is unreasonably stern, as if he is justifiably making you a stronger student/person in being this way. 2. He has little regard for personal opinion or participation yet demands it for a high grade. 3. Workload is absurd, etc.

Prof. Gershman is one of the hardest teachers I have ever had. Having him first semester Freshman year didn't help my case in trying to take things slow. He is very lecture heavy and goes off on tangents, rarely connecting topics to what you're expected to retain. He knows a lot but acts like his student's don't. Online participation is impossible.

Hes so annoying. Yells all the time and throws tantrums. Screams at you if you have your phone out. Talks to you like youre a child. Very erratic and unorganized. Harsh grader on papers but lets you do rewrites. Just unfit to be a professor because he lacks professionalism and common decency

Personality/Teaching style: He is quite abrasive and disrespectful. He is the more disorganized, class-long-rants-disguised-as-lectures kind of guy. Grading: Grades were so rough. If you are VERY strong in writing, you will probably get a high C/low-B. The class was graded on like 4 papers and a HUGE research paper (like 10-15 pgs).

Comment:
This professor is extremely disorganized and blames students when he is the one at fault. Having a civil discussion with this professor is impossible and when asked simple questions he rants and raves and becomes aggressive. This professor is unprofessional when talking to students and acts in a dictatorial manner in the classroom.

He doesn't know how to speak to students respectfully and he has an attitude problem. You can never ask him a question without him shouting or being aggressive. He could be less harsh and show interest in the students. It's actually discouraging to go to his class because he makes it very obvious he doesn't care about anything you have to say.

Class is based almost entirely on papers written about famous trials in american history. The course was difficult, but fair. Professor Gershman had difficulty getting papers back to us and would sometimes lash out at students for no apparent reason, but was otherwise an engaging professor. Discussion is mandatory.

VERY rude professor. Will call you out if he finds something that you are doing wrong. There are many UNIV1000 professors that are great, but if you're not into harsh professors, do not take him.

Attendance is mandatory & you would be doing yourself a disservice by skipping because he explains the material well and thoroughly. Although this class was not properly organized, Gershman was very accommodating and understanding of his own flaws. The greatest part of his class was his feedback on papers. He's a fair grader and allows for rewrites

He is still learning to organize his class. The whole thing was super messy and he is extremely unfair in his grading. He expects you talk every class and participate in an hour long debate about sports and history. If he thinks you did not participate throughout the semester than BOOM a whole letter grade off. Choose anyone but him for UNIV

Honestly, he is a tough professor. But you will learn from him. He is extremely helpful and HIGHLY accommodating to students- I've never had a teacher care so much about making time in their busy schedules to meet with you. He really accommodating and knows the material he teaches is difficult. If you don't learn something its your fault. He cares!

Gershman is one of the outlandish voices at Nova, but that is a good thing. He will challenge you and also inspire you to use your college years to your advantage. His classes are focused on law, but even more so on your writing style. Cloudy writing equals F, but his feedback will turn them A's overtime, and he rewards you as you get better.

This professor is trying too hard to to be tough and he's always making NSU out to be some kind of "PRELAW BOOT CAMP". he does this by trying to scare students in the subject of law school. No good.

Gersham is very tough, bottom line. However, that does not mean that he is a bad teacher. He does want his students to succeed, but he does not make it easy. He is extremely helpful if you show that you want to do well. You will pull out your hair while taking him, but it is worth it. At the end of the day, I learned the most from his classes.

Gershman gets a lot of bad rep for being tough but honestly, do what he asks you to, including the readings and it really is not that hard working with him. Just know that whatever stance you take he will challenge and question it. Definitely not a teacher for people who won't like to be challenged. I got an A in both classes I took with him.

Probably the WORST professor I have ever taken. DO NOT take Gershman. He is impossible and makes you run in circles. Tells you one thing and then grades you wrong even if you listen to his comments. Tests are extremely difficult and do not correspond to what you talk about in class. I will try my hardest to never take him again.

Hard professor.Doesn't help at all, even if you meet with him. Even though he does treat treat me like I'm in law school...I'm not, so he needs to get a grip. Very rude at times. His class discussions are very interesting, but exams are difficult. Will not take him again. EVER.
