Comment:
He is a tough grader and doesn't give very clear instructions for his assignments. However, if you go to his office hours he is very helpful. He's also very passionate and knowledgable. Assigns a lot of reading, but you can get away with not reading it all. His classes are more suited for literature students, don't take it as an easy elective.

He doesn't use a single visual aid, he blabbers on for the entire lecture, it's so hard to stay interested. He is super snobby and uptight, when you ask questions he is often rude, short, condescending. He is an EXTREMELY tough grader, I got points removed for punctuation, and for words that he "personally didn't think fit" Don't take his class!!!

Comment:
I admit I should have seen Biron for appointments-- but despite having gone to all of the lectures, I found that they were not engaging. The content was so enormous (16 novels) that I expected the exams to have open-ended questions, but they were very precise. His style of teaching needs fixing. The few in-class discussions we had seemed useless.

Comment:
Asks for too much content and hard to understand whenever there are no slides. He's not considerate for those that are non-French speakers and just there to complete their minor. Also, would prefer to have additional written assignments rather than 2 test and a final worth a lot each.

Comment:
The prof provides a ridiculous amount of context for the texts but doesn't specify whether or not he will actually test you on this material. I explicitly asked if he was going to test us on a list of authors he wrote down (without discussing the authors almost at all) and he said no. He lied. You MUST be fluent in French. Lowest grade I've gotten.

Very interesting class?I took this as a U1 student even though he insisted that is was ment for U3's, and enjoyed every lecture despite my low grade. He's a great lecturer, really knows his stuff well, very clear, easy to follow. He's quite demanding though, so be sure your French is in order and you've taken a class in French Lit before.

Biron is great! He really knows the subject matter and is very passionate about it. I am from the States, but I still found Qcoise lit interesting. The class however is a bird course for the Quebecois who have taken it in CEGEP, so they are all talking in the back while the non-quebecois are struggling to take notes. tough exams, but very fair

Great class, easy stuff if you do the work, and Pr Biron made it very interesting even if a little... endormant... in his way of talking. But overall, very good prof

The best French Lit. Prof at McGill. Helpful and attentive to students' input, fresh ideas, always clear and interesting lectures. Be fluent in French, go to class (they're a plesure anyhow) and do a minimal amount of work, and you'll do fine.
