Comment:
There was no clear way he distributed grades in 352. Labs are graded on a check minus/check/check plus scale, and there's no way to determine the difference between a B+ and an A-. Mostly check's and a few check plus'? Half check's and half check plus'? Who knows? Not me. Maybe Marsh does. I just wish there was more transparency in grading.

Comment:
My least favorite prof. Lectures are bad and the slides are literally just pictures in order from the textbook chapters. He then writes on them with his iPad and chicken scratch handwriting that you cannot read and makes mistakes. Only way to study is by reading the book chapters. No way to tell what he's emphasizing in the class, tests randomly.

I took upper level writing for chemistry major with Dr. Marsh. He was helpful and very clear about his requirement for the course. Three other contemporary students and I fortuitously got to publish a review paper with him, which was a wonderful fruit came out of this course. We all got to experience the real world communication in academia.

He is probably the worst professor in terms of teaching I have ever had here. He clearly does not care about the class or students which he makes apparent at his office hours. He is extremely intelligent but cannot teach others. Avoid him and take Chem 451 in the winter with the easier professor. Also be careful of his final its extremely hard.

He is the worst professor I ever had in my college career. Try to avoid him...not because the class is hard but he makes it hard by making you read the book ALL...His lectures are pictures from the book...

The tests are not too difficult and match well with the material covered in the lecture. He is very engaging in lectures and even made the attempt to learn names in a 50 ish person lecture. Occasionally misspells/ British spells a word but it does not detract from the lecture.

He's British and at times the arrogance shows. Neil's a smart dude and knows his subject material well, but I'm not sure if he's all that interested in teaching it. He will pick on students and can come off as rude, but thats the part I found fun about lecture....although he's pretty hard, it was an alright class

Never answers questions with direct answers because he doesn't know his subject well. Extremely confusing with is accent and goes off topic. The labs were horrible. 2 exams and a report due every lab.

Useless! Comes up 10 mins after Michigan time with a coffee, takes half the time drinking it. Moreover, the lecs are useless. Just do the HW, and go to him for HW office hours. He is too bad.

Don't go to lecture. Print the notes off and read them in a british accent and it will have the same effect. He copies the notes onto the board, and then reads them. I don't even think he wrote the notes. The tests weren't too hard.
