My favorite professor in SU so far, I started to love Astronomy after taking his class. A nice, humorous grandpa. He won't give you the homework's answers, so go to the lecture, write down the in-class exercises' answers and go to his or your TA'soffice for help. I once asked him the same problem for 3 times but he still explained to me patiently.

Excellent professor in my opinion. Very sweet and funny too. If you read the textbook and go to the lecture you will most likely do well. Practice exams are provided before every test, your lowest exam score is dropped, and he sometimes gives extra credit just for showing up to lecture! I'm not a science person, but I really enjoyed this class.

Genially the worst professor I have ever had. Anytime you try to get him to answer a question for you he beats around the bush and never actually gives you the answer. He says this helps students learn HOWEVER he never tells you the correct answer. You never know if you are actually right until after the test and you fail.

Very nice professor who teaches a fairly difficult class. Definitely harder than AST 101 and not a very good option if someone just wants to fulfill a science requirement. You will really have to work for a good grade in this class and can easily end up doing poorly because four tests make up the majority of your grade, all of which are difficult.

I am not going to lie when I say he is the worst professor I have ever had. There is absolutely no chance that you will get anything higher than a 50-80 range no matter what you do. I can not believe that universities hire people like this to teach college students and stress them out more then they need to be. This guy is a joke. Worst Prof ever.

Everyone who says they don't like him or this class it's because they barely try. I went to all the lectures and the labs and it was fine. I missed a few homeworks but it barely affected my grade. (the homeworks are every week and he says that at the start of the semester) If you just do everything you'll pass you don't even have to try that hard

I LOVED THIS CLASS. I went into this class expecting to hate it after reading the reviews and was pleasantly surprised. I found the topics interesting and easy and I've never appreciated a class and professor more than this one. Plays great music, is passionate about the subject, and is he made me want to pursue astronomy. 100% recommend!

He's that grandpa everyone loves. His class isn't very hard but his tests are. I busted my ass trying to get at least a B on one exam but all I got were C's. But he does add in participation. So I ended up with an A. I wouldn't buy the textbook; it's so expensive. Also, he's really funny, like a corny, cheesy funny but can't help but laugh.

The absolute worst teacher i have ever had in all of my academic career. We have weekly labs that contribute to nothing about lecture topic. Tests are impossible to study for because he puts questions on topics we have never seen. I had A tutor for five days in a row and studied every power point slide and still failed.

I took this class for a lab science credit (I am a journalism student) and I absolutely loved it. I found the content interesting and the professor even more interesting. He is so passionate about the stars and the universe and really cares about his students and how well they do. GO TO OFFICE HOURS - he wants to help you.

Tests are tough, you have to make sure you study from homeworks and the lecture tutorials. Not impossible to do well like a lot of students say you just have to work for it. Tests are curved so you just have to do decent because most students do poor.

This is the absolute worst class I've ever taken at Syracuse University. The lectures are long, confusing and incredibly boring. The slides don't contain much information and you have to teach yourself. The teacher is not helpful, corny, and everyone who has taken the class hates it. If you think Astronomy sounds cool, think again and save yourself

Honestly, this was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. While the homework and labs are easy, the tests are actually impossible. Nothing that is learned in lecture is on the exams. No matter how hard you study you will still get in the 50-75 range.

I have my final in an hour and I feel screwed. The labs aren't too bad, but TA's grade harshly. HW is easy if you google the answers. The tests are bad. Carl's not clear about what's on the tests. Lectures are long and confusing. If you can, take it w Duncan Brown or a different lab science.

I really enjoyed AST 104. Most people take this class to fill a science requirement with an easy A, but it's not that easy. That being said, a little effort goes a long way. If you go to the lectures, go to labs, and do the homework, you'll be fine.

Worst teacher at SU. never explains when the homework's are due and what we are going to be doing in lab. Don't sign up for this class and hopefully they will get rid of him. I can not think of a worse teacher and more unhelpful person I have met in my life than this guy. Just terrible.
