As long as you pay attention and take notes on everything he says + go over iClickers, you should be set for the exams. You can honestly ignore the textbook as it's just confusing compared to Dr. Mike's succinct teaching style. I remember Exam 2 being pretty tough for everyone so make sure to not slack off on that one!

Dr. Mike gives his students a lot of resources to do well, and if youre willing to put the time and effort into using those resources you will likely do well. i wish i had taken advantage of the resources he provided more

Dr. Mike is the best professor you could get for 1105&1106. I had a different professor for 1105 and chose Dr. Mike for 1106, my gpa had an immediate change. His lectures are interesting and hes always available for any questions. His review sessions are extremely helpful and reflect almost exactly as the exam. He made me enjoy bio so much more!

Dr. Mike is one of the best professors I've had so far as a Freshman. He makes a hard and very detailed subject matter fun and easier to learn. His lectures are very helpful and he always dives deeper into the information he wants you to know for the test or that you may just not understand, SO GO TO CLASS. He's funny & makes it a priority to help!

Dr. Mike is the best BIOL1105/1106 professor at Virginia Tech. He breaks down the material better than any other professor. Attendance is MANDATORY as there are iClicker questions & graded group activities at the end of each class. Reviewing before & after class is the best way to study & attend his test review sessions. He gives test questions!!

Dr. Mike is easily my favorite professor from my freshman year. I had him for both BIOL 1105-1106 and he never failed me, even when I almost failed him. The material is tough, but thats not his fault because he give you more than enough material to work with and practice from to get a good grade. Participate, do pre-class quizzes, & activities!!

This class was very difficult in my opinion, but if you do the work, a good grade it possible. He has lots of office hours and cares about his students doing well. There are videos/quizzes before each class period that take a long time to complete if you want to actually learn from them and do well. Tests are 70% of the grade; final is cumulative.

I had come to his class as a scared, naive freshman with loads of anxiety, having never taken an AP science class. I left a confident, well-organized and time managed freshman looking forward to the future. If you go to all outside reviews offered by Dr. Mike and show him the effort you put into his class, you will do fine! do revisions!

I took Dr. Mike for BIOL 1105 and 1106 and overall hes a wonderful professor! The flipped classroom, although a new style of teaching for me, ended up working out after I learned how to properly study. He really helps you study if you go to his office hours after the exams. GO TO HIS REVIEW SESSIONS they help! I didnt use the book at all.

Truly a great professor that loves his field and cares about his students. Provides a number of resources for class and provides study guides that follow the test exactly, but you still have to work super hard to get the grades that you want. I 110% recommend him for Bio 1105 & 1106!

Dr. Mike is the best professor I've had so far. I had someone else for BIOL 1105 and struggled. Dr. Mike goes very in depth in comparison to other professors, but you learn a lot more and it helps you to put the whole concept together. I went from barely getting 70s on my exams in 1105 to getting 90s in Dr. Mike's class. Go to his office hours!

Dr. Mike is a great professor, who genuinely cares about his students. The class is set to active learning, so you do the readings/ take notes outside of class, then most of class time is spent doing activities with a small lecture beforehand. Overall great and funny guy.

Doesnt spend time talking unnecessary lecture topics. Can be difficult to work with sometimes. Assignments can be long and cause class to run 20+ minutes over time. Do not schedule a class immediately after when his class is supposed to get out, you wont get there on time. Overall an engaging and knowledgeable instructor, clear with expectations.

Dr. Mike does a good job at taking difficult Biology concepts and making them easy to understand for students. He is caring and his review sessions practically spell out the test questions. He is willing to meet outside of class and it feels like he really WANTS you to do well.

Had a horrible bio teacher for 1105 and could never get above a C on a test. Took one test in his class and got an A! I actually feel like him learning during lecture instead of having to teach myself. He's not necessarily "easy" just a really great teacher!

Dr. Mike is great! Taking 1106 with him next semester. Takes a while to get used to his teaching style and not the biggest fan of breaking into groups. Attend his review session for exams, they really help
