You will either love Coplin or hate him. Taking PST 101 inspired me to leave journalism and become a policy studies major and graduate early. The question is whether he's the kind of jerk who gives "tough love" and inspires you to be better or if he's just an jerk. In my experience, he was the first kind.

He's a difficult person. He can feel abrasive and blunt, but at the end of the day he is capable of launching your entire career. This class teaches you so much and his focus on practical skill is amazing for every major. He makes you work for it, but I feel like a better person for it. Going to be his TA next semester as an underclassman. Worth it

Coplin is a legend, in good ways and in bad ways. Watch out for his start of the semester drama skit, and make sure you attend class!! He will definitely offend you once or twice but thats what the class is all about, helps you learn more about yourself!!

Taking PST101 (formally PAF101) is the smartest thing you can do no matter your major. There is so much help available to you, its hard fail this class. Coplin is awesome, take him up on his lunch offers. If you show you care, he will help you out when needed. Last thing, Coplin, literally has connections everywhere! DO GOOD!!

Coplin is incredible. Some of the comments below are completely untrue. Great class, great professor. Real life applications. Former PAF students as speakers. Would take again.

Terrible professor, an even worse human being. Claims he "coaches" his students, in reality he just like to spew bullsh*t at them to make himself look better. His lectures serve as his soapbox where he has an audience which might as well be held at gunpoint considering that he will destroy your grade if you hurt his feelings by not showing up.

One of my favorite professors. Super funny and interesting, but this class is not for the easily offended. He purposely will say stuff to get a rise out of people, which is really funny if you don't take it too seriously. Attendance is mandatory or you lose points. Grading is based on papers, which are long and tedious, but straightforward.

William Coplin is everything someone with low self esteem during their college career hopes to become, a sad egotistical elderly man who has an army of brown-nosing TA's to boost his ego. His entire course was built around having his ego massaged by teenagers. Willing to bet this creep enjoys that more than he should. Terrible professor.

Coplin is arguably the best professor on campus. This is the best class I have ever taken. The lectures are always engaging and atypical from most courses on campus. There are no tests or quizzes. There are papers called Modules but as long as you put in the time and effort it should be no problem to get a good grade.

This was the absolute hardest and worst class Ive ever taken. Do not take this class if you do not have to. Coplin is an absolute jerk in lectures, hes completely unfair. And you have to do 20+ pages of homework due every 1-2 weeks and if you get the smallest thing wrong youre completely screwed.

This class is worth it, you will learn good time management skills as well as research ones. I took this class and enjoyed it, and as a former TA for this class as well, I can tell you its a unique class at Syracuse and definitely worth your time.

PAF 101 IS NOT FOR THE WEAK OF HEART. Many see Coplin as this crazy old guy who drives everyone insane. It's all an act, he attacks tour morals and beliefs and makes you look within yourself and question your own morals. Of course this process is incredibly uncomfortable, but you will learn life-lessons from Coplin. Be ready to be frustrated!!

Coplin was such a breath of fresh air. I came into the year expecting to hate PAF 101, because whenever I hear about government or politics, my brain shuts down. This class, however, made me find a newfound appreciation for public policy. It is hilarious and inspiring - I would recommend this class to anyone. Even if your class doesn't go viral.

No professor will make you work for a grade like Coplin will; but also no other professor will make the genuine effort to give you life skills and opportunity like Coplin will. If you left this class without appreciation for its professor then you missed the point. And if you left without a better set of life skills then you probably didn't pass.

Coplin is one of the best professors I've ever had and PAF101 is something every student should take if they get a chance. You learn so much about not just public policy, but skills that you will use the rest of your time in college.

Coplin is one of the best professors at SU. He is crazy and neurotic because he cares about his students and genuinely wants them to succeed not just in his class but in life. Even if you don't become a major (which you should), the skills taught in this class are so valuable. The modules really aren't that bad, just don't procrastinate.
