Steve is great! He cares about what were learning about, as well as his students. He expects a lot from you, but is more than willing to do everything he can to help you succeed. Gives an amount of work that is suitable for the course. I hope he teaches this course more in the future as he did a great job!

Overall professor Mattox was a great guy, I knew almost nothing coming into the class and he was always available for extra help and loved answering questions. It is clear how much he enjoys teaching and it radiates to the students, highly recommended.

Comment:
I found Professor Mattox annoying, both as a person and as a professor. He didnt communicate well at all and when asking for help, he would provide vague answers that had almost nothing to due with the original question. Didnt seem like he cared if you did well or not. Had an attitude of I dont know, not my problem.

Steve was the best prof I have ever had. He is caring, hilarious and loves rocks. I would have given him a 5, but I felt that his knowledge on the biology content of the class was lacking. I also felt some of the content was a little advanced for K-8 teachers. Meeting with him for office hours really helps! So does participating! Highly recommend.

I never had Professor Mattox, but i interact with him quite a lot, and he is a really amazing guy. He genuinely cares about students and he listens no matter how boring your story. Very relatable guy and a very fun guy to be around. I highly recommend taking any classes you can with him because I can tell he is amazing!

Steve was the best professor I've ever had. He made the material interesting, genuinely cares about students, set up three different final exam periods to make sure it was convenient for students, arranged a study session, and explained every concept thoroughly so students barely had to use their textbooks. Grades quickly and fairly.

The class is designed to use the next generation science standard format to model what science teachers need to use in their field. The book was used to supplement what Steve taught and in some chapters, helped clear up lectures, but was mostly not needed. Show up and participate and you'll be fine. He is very picky on lesson plan. Steve is great.

I really enjoyed Steve. He was engaging and helpful. Anytime he was in his office you were invited to stop by with any problems, geology related or not. I seriously enjoyed his class. It was not too hard, super easy with all the examples he gave. You can tell he really cares about geology and the environment.

He's a great guy and really wants everyone to do well in his class. His lectures are usually pretty clear and detailed, but the tests don't always match what he teaches. There is no textbook and much reading, but make sure you start studying for the tests far in advance.

Friendly & helpful guy. Class may seem like a breeze until you get to his exams. Questions can be confusing at times. He does give you tests from previous years to study off of, however beware, he changes the wording of some slightly for the actual test which then changes the correct answer.

I hated this class. I was not interested in geology but took the class for credit. As a straight A student this class really hurt my grade. He is a funny guy but the questions on the exam are nothing like what is taught in class. Would never take again, this class was brutal.

Professor Mattox truly is a great teacher. I loved having him for GEO 319 and the labs we practiced were always fun and inspiring for when we teach our own class. There is a large lesson plan due at the end of the semester but he will help you with anything and everything if you just ask. He obviously loves Earth Science and class is never boring.

He was a good professor for SCI 225. I would recommend him. He occasionally lectured too much, but usually you do group work. There is no textbook but I recommend printing out all of the powerpoints to take notes on. Make sure you start you concept map early! They take a very long time to finish. His tests are reasonable, not too hard or easy.

Steve is a passionate geologist and a passionate teacher. He's got a lot of ways to make geology interesting and comprehensible. He's super helpful and personable too. I came into his class to decide whether to major in geology and he's a big part of the reason I decided to go for it.

Excellent professor. He isn't always clear on what he's teaching, but he's ALWAYS willing to help you and answer any questions. I was terrified of this class before the semester started and I ended up loving it because he made it a lot of fun. Take him if you get the chance!
