I felt like his lectures were an episode of the tv show Lost. All over the place, nothing made sense, barely even English. But what are lectures anyway? What is Lost? What does it mean to lecture? The first element is water. Water is everything. But seriously, really hard grader, suck up to him at office hours to improve your grade.

I have to agree with the review below mine. He's very knowledgable about his subject, but because of that, he is set in his opinions of the subject matter and will dismiss you as being uneducated if you offer a different viewpoint. He's not a bad guy, but the lectures were painfully boring and ego-driven. Meet with him and you'll get a B at least.

Blits is a really smart professor, but the material isn't open to anyone's interpretation but his own. And his interpretation is often muddled and confusing. He just stands in front of the class and utters random phrases related to the readings. Only 3 papers to write, but I have no idea what he grades them based off of.

Blits is smart, too smart, he thinks his word is law. disagree and it's like you insult his intelligence. grade consists of three papers but how he grades those nobody knows, you get to revise the first two papers, he encourages students to meet with him, he's good at clarifiying things but only if you have questions ready. avoid if possible

I was a little worried to take Jan based on previous ratings, but I actually ended up really liking the class. His grading is kind of mysterious but he is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his material which makes for an interesting class.

Dont be discouraged about what other people on here are saying. They are the students that put no effort in the class and didn't participate. Do the readings and meet with him a few times before papers are due.Work hard on revisions, participate in class discussions, and you'll do fine.He wants effort.I got an A and I'm not a fantastic writer

Had him for the culture and multi culture honors colloquium. I liked him a lot - he's a true scholar. Course consists of 3 papers and class discussions. Take the time to meet with him about your papers and your writing will improve. Don't be discouraged w a C on the first paper - revisions will get that grade up. I got an A in the class.

Don't even think about it. Blits is the most professor-y professor ever. He believes his word is the ultimate truth and has a way of arguing against whatever you're saying just so he can be right, even when he's way off base. His comments on essays sometimes aren't even related to what you've written about and all he wants to hear is his opinion.

I'll start with the only positive thing I have to say: Blits knows a great deal about his subject and is very passionate. However, he grades with extreme difficulty for a freshman class. He's completely in love with his opinion and is very unwilling to accept others. You'll have a far harder time in his colloquium than in other ones. Avoid him.

He is arrogant, and is in love with his own opinion. Papers are graded very hard, and no matter how good your paper is, you'll recieve a bad grade if you don't regurgitate his opinion back to him. Lectures are boring, and are basically him telling you how and what to think. Do not take under any circumstances.

Although Professor Blits can be a bit closed minded at times, overall he really cares about the students and tries to get to know you. His class is hard, but he is a fair grader and your writing skills will improve.

(Colloquim)One of the oddest human beings I've ever encountered. He is a nice man but a confusing teacher. His comments on essays are either rather personal, or critical of the fact that you didn't reguritate his opinion back to him. He goes through text word for word, which is boring and doesn't like you unless if you read outloud. Don't take.

Dogmatic, arrogant, boring, and an incredibly hard grader. You will hate the class, but he WILL make you a better writer (although to do well just regurgitate what ever he says). Whether or not becoming a better writer is worth how terrible this class is up for debate.

By far my favorite teacher so far in Delaware. Very interested in the material, and can be very helpful when writing papers. Grades papers hard, but is fair in the end.

Overall, not horrible, but classical literature is no evry exciting, and he doesn't help it much. Very oppinionated, just write what he says in your papers and you'll be fine.

Heres' the bottom line with Blits- he gets a bad wrap. He can come off as arrogant, unhelpful, and lots of other things, however, he has an intense love for the material and knows his stuff. He is a true intellectual and scholar through and through, and strives for clarity. Do not be discouraged by the fact that he doesn't pal around with students.

i took him as a colloquium and would have rather jumped out the window than sat through his boring, contradictory lecture. He made us buy this stupid book that he wrote, that we NEVER READ, and the bookstore wouldnt buy it back. Oh yes, the book sucked that much. Either way, a pompous idiot with wierd teeth. Worst class ever, avoid like the plague
