He is very passionate about his job, but he assumes everybody has the same knowledge as him about Latin. I consider myself to be fairly studious but I would have to practice Latin every day if I wanted an easy A. He is willing to teach you outside of class as well, but it's kind of intimidating. Be prepared to put in the time and effort.

Very knowledgeable about the subject, and expects all of his students to be as engaged and interested as he is. Weekly readings with 'easy' pop-quizes. You learn more from writing the papers than listening to his lectures. Great at giving feedback on essays- as long as you do them in advance and utilize his feedback, you're sure to get a good grade

Didn't have tests, only 4 papers. I didn't do one single reading, but took note of what he talked about during lectures and still did well in the class. Readings are long, and had I done them the essays probably would've been pretty easy.

Hal is a great professor to work with. Some others commented on his "arrogance," but all I see is a man who has studied classics all his life and knows his stuff. Straightforward class, always knew what was expected of us. Very friendly guy and will answer your questions without making you feel like an idiot.

Dr. Haskell has been one of my favorite professors since I got here. He knows all about the topics and can answer any questions you have. That said, he expects a lot from his students. He has weekly tutorials and wants his students to learn, not just pass through a class. Only take his classes if you want to study and actually learn.

FYS is meant to prepare students for college. I had more stress in that class than in any of my other current classes. His typical grading style is "Great job, B". He gives little comprehensive feedback and often diverts from his subject. He likes telling stories about his time in Greece. Still a nice guy overall, but not a good teacher.

Took Latin for four years prior to Haskell. Learned more in his class than previously. Great teacher. Very straight-forward and knows what he is doing. Eager to see his students learn. Will offer extra help outside of class. Work hard in the class, do the translations, and he will recognize the effort. Class is very straight-forward and structured.

He's very interested in what he does. I missed his exam, but he was nice enough to let me make it up, no harm done. Latin is not very interesting and I can't pin that on him, it's just the subject. My only concern is that he required a lot of homework to be done, and it was more than I was willing to do.

FYS was supposed to get us ready for college but it ended up being the hardest class most of us had. He's also very intimidating because he knows absoultely everything about Greece. However, although he is very tough, hes a really nice guy. He actually took us to eat Greek food and then explained all the dishes to us, so hes not a bad guy.

He knows what he is talking about, but at the same time, assumes that you do too. As a whole, he is a nice guy, but if you want help out side of class, your questions will get answered with about as much thought as youd get from a pine cone.

although haskell can be a bit overwhemling he is very eager to see his students learn and wants to push them as hard as possible. if you're a slacker, like me, you might want to avoid his classes cause he gets immensely perturbed at laziness and un-responsiveness (which i think he views as ignorance). though just generally trying in the subject and

i have both hal and pam. while i dont really like pam, i really enjoy hals class. contrary to what everyone else has said, he is helpful. you just have to go to him outside of class. he is always willing to work with you if you want to take the effort. His classes are hard, but it is also one of the few i enjoy and lookforwad to advancing in.

Dr. Haskell can be an ****. I felt scared to ask questions because he is one of those professor that just seems to get pissed when you don't understand. His tests are a easier than you would think though, he makes it seem like you have to know every detail, but rarely tests on the crazy details.

Like his wife, he is a very nice and good-natured guy, eccentric in a good way. Honestly, I can't really recommend him as a teacher however. Latin I consumed my life for a whole semester. I did learn a bit of Latin. He is not unreasonable but the pacing of the class is crazy. The actual class time is a bit of a waste.

I barely made it through this class. We moved very quickly. He's a really nice guy but I felt like he was dingy and not helpful. I have had both of the Haskells and both of those classes have been the most insanely difficult, memorization-full classes since I've been here.

I found Dr. Haskell to be very arrogant. He's not accessible to alternative points of view regarding subjective issues such as culture. Blatantly disregarded many students who could have used more assistance. Only wanted to cater to the ones that regurgitated his opinions back to him.
