He offers quite a bit of Extra Credit in class. But even if you don't show up for the entire semester you pass it. Google is your study buddy in this class.

Took AAS 33B spring 2016. Lectures were long and the material on the presentations were not really on the exam. Doi is an easy grader for essays, but if you really wanna ace the exams, you need to read on your own. He tends to go off topic a lot in his lectures so it can be confusing at times.

Professor Doi is a nice person, I received a B on his class, but his class is really easy and straight forward. Just study the study guide and you will do good on the tests. There is no surprise on tests.

Very nice guy. But very boring. If you really want to maximize your points you should go to class because he mentions participation assignments in class and doesn't put them onthe syllabus. He isn't clear on assignments. If you ask for clarification he pretty much leaves it up to you. He is an easy grader and very forgiving.

His slide lectures will be based on the chapters but what he's saying is all a tangent of the slides. He will tend to skim over a lot of information on the slides. Honestly, the tests are based on the readings. He does give study guides the classes prior to exams (usually includes the wknd). If you cover those, you'll be fine. He's a sweet person.

Steven Doi is an Asian Santa Claus. Come to office hour and get to know him. His class workload is maintainable and it consist 2 midterms, 2 papers and a final. The midterm are multiple choice, true or false, 2 short and 1 long essay. Essays section is much easier than the MC. Take this class it will help you get rid of a lot of Area.

He's a nice teacher but he doesn't offer up the lecture slides as a study tool, isn't clear about what will be on exams, and changes the slides so fast that you can't copy all of the notes without drowning out his voice and missing something. DRY subject in general and the books are vague and unhelpful so I had to rely on the internet for clarity.

He is very jolly and nice! If you take time to go to his office hours, he will definitely help. The class itself is kind of boring. Its like another US History class...however, if you keep up with the reading the class isn't too hard to pass 2 midterms 1 final and participant assignments here and there.

Professor Doi seriously reminds me of the Asian version of Santa Claus or a pumpkin! He's so jolly & happy every time he walks into the classroom. To be honest, his lectures can get SUPER boring-- they made me sleepy every time. But he is a great person overall. His tests are easy-- mostly multiple choice. He's an easy grader & the book is needed!!

Easy and nice. Uses multiple choice on his tests. I recommend taking Do/Doi instead of Do/Franks since Franks include group work with grade which makes you bring txtbk to class, Plus Franks makes you buy the book he writes and is boring. Doi gives a lot of xtra credit and is pretty funny. Hardly studied and got an A.

this teacher was hella funny but super random. i barely took notes from his lecture's because you cant get anything descent from it. with this class you need lecture notes those are what you need to stdy from so pick franks, yamato or do first they give powerpoints that are very helpful for midterms and final. 2 mid term and 2 essays they final

this guy is so much fun. just show him that you're not a mediocre idiot (if you are then i guess you'll have to do regular work like everyone else) and he'll hella favor you. offers some extra credit and is very good about narrowing the material down to what's relevant. take him, he's great.

Doi is a funny guy. although, his lectures are very disorganized and hard to follow because he rambles off topic. Beware, when he is lecturing you should read the chapter because you will not be able to pass the test with just his notes. He grades easy and tells you what will be on the test, so come to class.

I find his class very very boring so bring something to keep you company. He'll review before the exam so make sure you show up to class. You hardly need the books. You just need them for the essays. Unfortunately I prefer Franks over Doi but he's not bad in terms of being a lecturer.
