He lectures for American History II the whole time which isnt bad just can get boring at times. Definitely take notes because it will help in the long run for the midterm and final. Homework is simply filling in blanks in a workbook and then the midterm and final and just answering short answer & then an essay. Easy class but pay attention!

Every week there was workbook chapters, not hard but annoying. Lecture heavy, so boring. Just the midterm and final are open note essays. Typical grade B. He knows his stuff and if you like history youll enjoy him.

Professor Hoffer is an overall solid choice as a prof. The only homework is workbook chapters due every Friday, and you can bs your answers. I didn't even turn some in and he gave me 100. He doesn't post lectures online, so if you don't show up, make friends with good notetakers. He takes attendance and uses it in your favor if you show up.

He gives little to no explanation, gives extremely hard tests, and is not approachable at all. His attempt at humor is awkward, unfunny, and uncomfortable.

Class is way too much work compared to what he teaches, really long papers, and really long lectures.

One of the easiest teachers I had. He asked a workbook chapter once a week, that you can bs so hard and he will pass you. (He doesn't really read the workbook chapters) His midterm and final are take home and they are super easy. I love the way he explains stuff and makes awkward jokes

Class is a prime example of a trade off. There isn't much outside work, but there is a lot of notes. Not bad, though. Just show up each class, listen and take notes - that's all there is. Don't skip because the notes are hard to make up. Work load is manageable - one workbook chapter ever week, and then the midterm and final.

The only thing that graded every week are his workbook chapters. Make sure they're completed & it's an easy 100 cause he doesn't really look through & grades. Both the midterm and final exams are take home. It's really hard to fail this class. Professor Hoffer is great!

Dr. Hoffer -Harvard Law + PhD from Johns Hopkins. Class Format: Shows up, crack a joke or two, takes attendance, lecture from the podium. Rinse, repeat. Just show up, attendance is part of the grade. There is a workbook that has questions that are torn out and handed in every Fri. Do this and the take home Final and you're set. That simple.

I learned a lot in this class and it wasn't really difficult either. Just come to class, turn your phone off (he hates that), and do the workbook chapters and you're in good shape. The midterm and final are papers that are easy as long as you took good notes, because all of the answers will come from that. I got an A with not much trouble.

workbook chapters are SOOOO annoying... take home midterm and final are long and annoying bc he gives no guidelines, but gave everyone in the class an 87 on them. i almost fell asleep several times, but he seems like a nice guy and the class wasnt that bad. textbooks are a MUST for midterm and final. answers come right from them.

Professor Hoffer is an absolute joy. Do not listen to any of the negative comments. I have done my part and gotten two A's in his class. He loves to reference the simpsons or family guy.

Dr. Hoffer is very strange/awkward and sometimes talks to himself, but a pretty nice guy. On assignments it seems like he is unwilling to give A's. Despite that, it seems like if you stay away and do your work he will give you the A for the class. Nice guy & knows a good amount about history. Probably one of the better professors in the department

This is my fifth class with Hoffer, and he's a great professor. I tough grader perhaps, but does it to encourage you to go above the minimum, and really try to wow him. He's second to none in his understanding of the United States and its economy. I would highly recommend him for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding.

The man is a genius. You may get bored in class but if you have a genuine love for history, which I do, then class is awesome. If u don't then he is probably the best professor to take because he is a good teacher.

I took Prof. Hoffer this semesters in two classes. He's an extremely tough grader during the semester, but you can get B's on everything and as long as you do the work, he'll give you the A.Feel free to surf the web during class. he drops the 2 lowest grades, and thus encourages you to SKIP 2 assignments which gives him less work, funny guy awkward

Awesome professor. The work load is not that bad, I tried and got an A, if you have half a brain and do all your work and listen to his directions, you will do fine. Also, be advised that the midterm and final are writing intensive (should be at least 3,000 words) take home exams.
