You can tell she is not familiar with online learning as she is an older professor but is doing a great job in adapting. These other reviews are a bit demeaning considering I found her to be one of the most understanding professors I have had at McGill. Online learning is a struggle for everyone and I think sometimes students forget that.

I love her, she is genuinely one of the most interesting and intriguing professors I have had at McGill. Very kind, and understanding with online learning and makes her material exciting to learn as she is quite passionate about it.

Did not attend lectures after the second quiz nor did I need to. The quizzes were straightforward and the final asked almost the same questions as the final quiz. Most of the grade came from a research paper which we were given a lot of independence with. If you don't like long papers and lots of reading for research I wouldn't recommend this class

Content was interesting but she grades Really hard on arbitrary things that you don't know before hand, and getting any clear feedback is nigh impossible.

Her lectures are generally good but she does tend to ramble on. We did not get through the syllabus. For some reason, she nitpicked my word choices on every paper I wrote and left some comments I found just mean. Unless you're truly passionate about the subject she is teaching, I would not recommend taking one of her classes.

I really liked professor Clarke at the beginning of the term, I thought that her lectures were interesting and she covered the topic well. Oh how she fell from grace... throughout the semester she has been almost impossible to contact, to the extent that I had to corner her in class in order to ask important questions about the final. DO NOT TAKE

Gives almost no feedback, makes you feel as if the assignment was not even worth your time. Was it even read? Thousands of words summed up by one comment at the end, no reasoning for the grade given. Assignments take more than a month to be returned. Lectures and readings are fine.

I enjoyed this class tremendously. Professor Clarke has an extensive knowledge of Italian Renaissance culture and does an exquisite job of sharing her love for the subject with her students. Lectures were quite rich with information and utterly fascinating. My favorite class I've taken at McGill thus far!

Paula is incredibly knowledgable about Renaissance Europe. Her lectures might seem a bit dreary but if you pay attention she is actually quite funny. Her knowledge makes her classes a favorite of mine. She is also a fair grader of essays. She doesn't go easy on you but she doesn't demand the impossible. She does assign A LOT of reading.

Definitely one of the worst courses I've ever taken at McGill. SO boring, and her voice drags on and on. Goes over class time. Readings are extremely boring. Brought down my GPA.

I think professor Clarke is the funniest person at McGill. Lectures do drag on a little, but whenever she laughs to herself it's hilarious, and this makes it all worth it. She's also a pretty generous grader. A fine teacher all in all.

She seems nice but is so so so boring. She made an interesting class awful. The work isn't terrible but every class seems pointless and her voice puts me to sleep. Talks way too much about random art and goes way off topic, making it impossible what to know. So many primary source readings that ended up not being on the exam.

Professor Clarke is great. She is lecture heavy but extremely accessible for help and resources! She is also hilarious and knowledgeable. If you do the readings (there aren't many) and answer questions in class, she appreciates it. There were 3 conferences (participation), but warning: readings are posted late.

This is a hard one - I love the course material and became rather fond of Clarke as a prof but her lectures tend to be a bit of a snooze interspersed with essential begging for participation. She has this weird way of sounding as though she is asking a rhetorical question but actually isn't and this happens a LOT. Good class, pretty easy, kind lady

She is a very sweet lady and knowledgeable on the topic she is teaching. Yet, most of time, she does not come to class prepared. She is extremely confusing in regards to essay instructions.

Clarke is lovely. She's very knowledgeable, sweet, and pretty funny if you're awake to hear it. Her lectures shouldn't be attended tired. She has a roundabout way of speaking which can drag on and on. If you've got a friend, alternate who attends lectures. That said, she's a good grader, her assignments are very fair, and she's really nice.

Seemed cute and endearing at first but her lectures ended up being so incredibly boring. She is a nice lady and knows a lot, but after the 10th lecture of slides of close ups of Venetian architecture I was ready to fall asleep. Long paper and take home exam, plus light reading made it okay, but if you want a thrilling and engaging prof its not her.

Very clear and fair grading with an especially easy final. Clarke is very enthusiastic about the subject and it is obvious that she enjoys what she does . Easily one of the wisest Profs I've had throughout my four years at McGill.
