Ray is awesome. I've never had a class where the prof is so successful at getting his students engaged and involved. He held many study groups for his students and even gave us some of his old books. He's social, helpful and even bought students beer.

One of the best professors at SFU. Never afraid to speak his mind or admit that there are flaws in the material/discipline. He conveys material well and is incredibly knowledgeable in the subject. Always available for help and/or beer, and cares far more about students learning than performing well. This prof is the man you wish all profs were.

No outline or Syllabus. His power points are very helpful - don't miss any class. His comments can be embarrassing, and he most probably is a genius but it's impossible to have philosophical conversations with him (except if you want to be a 'bio-linguist'). He is charming but you have to play the game. It's not so funny.

Funny, personable and helpful. The textbook's his, and is more confusing than he could hope to be. However, if you stick to it and ask questions, his infinite patience will let you do well in the course.

Such a fascinating, witty and humble character. The way he thinks is entirely different, so it may be hard to understand him. But he always makes extra time to help students. Still, if you're not interested in phil then this class will blow your mind.

Is nice and very knowledgeable but mumbles too much and is difficult to understand. Not very helpful either. This class won't be very hard if you're willing to put the work into it, but Ray himself isn't all too great of a prof.

I learned next to nothing, and the prof was in his own little world when he gave lectures. he had no assigned readings and it took him an entire year (12 months later) to submit my friend's final grade. I am amazed that this man still has a job. He was nice, but I want my money back.

There's layers and layers to everything this guy says. His arguments are original compelling at the surface level, but he is also often making literary illusions and puns. Witty, kind, definitely a genius. BUT you will feel unsure what is expected of you and have to be innovative and take major academic risks. He might also forget to grade your pap

Amicable, brilliant, patient, helpful, hilarious, has a most adorable Shih Tzu, can solve 30-line proofs in his head, faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Ray Jennings!

I've taken a dozen or so philosophy courses so far and 210 is still my favourite. The material will seem foreign at first, but it won't take long for you to get it. Also, this course is virtually unfailable if you try. Half your mark is homework completion and he pretty much gives you the midterm and final in advance of the examinations.

He would be fine if he didn't mumble and he didn't trail off at the end of his sentences.

Intro to Existentialism is a blast with Ray Jennings. He offers us enough guidance to find our own way through this very rich and complex period of Philosophy, without getting lost. Though at times he can be obscure, I think that's "the point". He is never condescending and always respectful. I really love this class.

Ray is a great guy who is also very smart. That being said, I believe that he is not necessarily very in-touch with students' perspectives or experiences: a number of students found him to be confusing, and while he intends to be very helpful, sometimes it just doesn't work out. He seems better suited to teach upper-division or graduate courses.

Intro to Existentialism. Unfortunately, he seems to lecture on everything but that. There is a list of books he will give as optional reading; read them, it will help your understanding of the course because his lectures will not. No guidance in assignments. Interesting subject, but the course wasn't very good. It at the very end though.

While Ray is a nice guy, he is not well suited for undergrad. He does not seem to understand how hard this class can be for people. His answer to many of my questions was "read the text," which was even more confusing as he wrote it. Notes are garbled, v. unorganized. Expect yourself to lose the will to live in this class.
