Okay teacher, relies way too much on videos to teach the class...He is full of information and wants to get it all out...Beats around the bush alot, never stays on topic...jumps from topic to topic very fast. Kept us over every class to make up for the day that he could not be there. I don't recommend him unless you just cant get around taking him.

Tough prof. REDA THE MATERIAL. I hate profs that teach from their visual aids though...like powerpoint and stuff...Gruber uses video and its hard to pay attention to the videos which he shows. HE SHOWS A VIDEO A DAY AT LEAST! He often goes a bit off track about his travels, some of which are interesting, but i think he takes it a bit far.

he is a very nice man who cares about what is going on in the world and wants you to notice what is going on too, a lot of videos and reading, but if you go to class and pay attention, you will actually learn something about different parts of the world, too bad he's retiring b/c he genuinely cares whether students learn or not

I had this as a summer class, and it was just lecture/video every day. Boring! But Dr. Gruber is a very nice man and it was an easy A.

I like Dr. Video (You'll find why they call him that) a lot, he's a nice man. He's just not a very good teacher. Honestly, you will watch a video in every single class session, which sounds fun but most definitely is not. If you pay attention you'll do fine, but make sure you don't fall asleep during the videos.

Listen this guy is crazy, you should see the study guides for this. Then you study it all and half of it isn't even no the test. EVERY and I mean EVERY class sessoin is the same, he talks then we watch a video, next class, he talks, we watch a video. A potentially interesting class is WASTED by having this guy teach it. A-V-O-I-D!

The important stuff. He does take attendance, his lectures consist mainly of videtapes of PBS shows, but if you do the reading and participate a little, you should be fine. Tests aren't too bad. Multiple choice, fill-in, maps, short essays, 1 longer essay. He will chat in his office after class if he has time. I'd take him again. Expulsar!!!

The class was the History of Latin American Independance. This class should have been really easy for me, but Gruber's teaching style is so weak and disorganized that there's no way to learn because everything is kind of vomited onto you in a wave of fast-forwarded videos and non-commital-trailings-off. I got an "A", but I already knew about 50% of what I needed to going in an taught myself the rest.

Yes he does love the spanish setting on the vcr! Also, if you are wanting a teacher that can perfectly pronounce everything he can't. He actually said (sounding like this) "killometer" instead of the normal saying. He's crazy lol.

He always put the vcr on spanish for some reason that got on my nerves. Gruber is so boring and is the most unclear professor i've ever had i dont recommend anyone taking him. If you want a class where all you do is watch annoying videos and listen to his ill attenmpt at humor then he's the teacher

Gruber is kinda boring, but he makes up for it by going the xtra mile for students. He gives a choice on whether to take essay or multiple choice and matching on the tests, and gives 10 points in easy xtra credit. The only drawback is that you have to be very prepared.
