Professor Monti rambles on too much about him self thinks his jokes are funny when they are not and is just all around a horrible teacher i would not recommend taking this class unless you want to sit and hear him talk about himself

Comment:
Monti's lectures were some of the most insightful, poignant, and challenging experiences I have ever had. No joke. There is no course in the world I would trade for those lectures. His quizzes were ridiculous, the essays seemed like afterthoughts, and I have no idea how he graded the course, but those lectures were fantastic.

I agree about the quizzes. I would recommend memorizing every statistic for every ethnic group for every city in order to do well. Monti is knowledgeable, but doesn't prepare for lecture. If you have a specific interest or question, SPEAK UP, or he won't discuss what you want him to. He's a good guy, though. I think....

Monti is very interesting, though incredibly sarcastic to the point of insulting at times (in good humor, but pushing the envelope some times). Quizzes are very difficult because they focus on obscure details of the text, but the papers are easy enough to do well on if you put the effort in. a very enjoyable interesting class

A bored, tired, disinterested teacher. Had the feeling that he lost interest years ago in his field and his students.

This professor once had a great reputation which is why I took this class. What a dissapointment! Rambling, sarcastic, seems bored with the material. NOT recommended.

he is just so useless as a professor. he refused to prepare for class most days and read from the newspaper about random things that maybe pertained to sociology. maybe. also i know the arrogance thing was a joke, but it was overwhelming. AND his tenure makes him lazy and doesn't benefit students AT ALL. get over yourself and teach something.

Talks too much about himself/random things and not enough about the subject at hand. Enough said.

Reading is really not necessary. I got a B+ just by working hard on the three assignments which we were given a month to work on. He rambles in lecture, so you never know what is important and what isn't. Basically, just ask him a ton of questions about how to write the papers and you're set.

Monti is absolutely hilarious, and I'd look foward to coming to class just to listen to his jokes. It is an interesting topic and approach to the topic, but get ready for a LOT of outside work (we were assigned 40 chapters of reading in the first 3 weeks!) The paper topics are a little vague, but rewarding. A class totally worth taking.

Monti is so in love with himself that you're just space in the room. He thinks he's gods gift to Sociology, does not give any students credit or respect. If you're looking for an easy class don't even bother- you're wasting your time since lectures are just about him and not course content.

Professor Monti is a really great, nice guy. He seems tough at first, and tries to pretend that he doesn't like his students (why? tenure!), but he cares more than any of my other professors did. His papers are vague, if you use alot of outside material you will do fine. He's very interesting and often tells stories about his experiances.

Funny guy, not so clear though when it comes to exam materials and paper requirements and expectations. Very understanding if you have to miss class, turn your paper in late, or take an exam on a different day. Overall, great professor but you definately need to fend for yourself to do well.

Paper topics are broad, and the papers are graded hard, but if you meet with your TA, your grades do go up (this happened to me!). Prof Monti is hilarious, loves to tell stories. He is a very understanding man and is willing to work with you to have a successful experience in the class.

Comment:
Entire grade is 6 papers!!! Wish i knew that before the class, lectures are just him going off on strange tangents and the topics for the papers are extremely broad. Had no idea what was going on in the class, if you have time to write papers and are good at bs-ing stuff you should do ok
