Comment:
If you want a professor with no respect for you, then Bruce is your guy. Whenever I asked a question in lab, his typical response was to belittle me, tell me to do something I had already done, and ultimately not answer my question. One of the least pleasant people I've encountered. Would not recommend.

Prof Hartpence clearly knows his stuff. I wouldn't say to be scared of having him, but definitely find someone in the class and try to work together on assignments when you can. Lectures are fine not too boring and if you need help he tries to work with you to get the answer. Quizzes and Tests are the hardest part of his class and there are few

Professor Hartpence is an amazing professor! His lectures are hardly ever boring and he has a whole lot of energy and that makes learning a lot easier. The only difficult thing about his class is his quizzes and test. They are very challenging and you have to study and know your stuff. But if you read his books they help tremendously.

Hartpence knows what he's doing, and his lectures benefit from it. Warning: He's very much a morning person; if you get him for an 8 am, be aware he will be WAY more chipper than the time of day merits. He CLEARLY loves both teaching and his subject, so his courses are of unparalleled quality, even if he expects a bit much at times.

Previously, I was a 4.0 student coming into this class. I had heard both posi/neg things about him but took the course anyway. First week in and none of us knew what was going on. It seemed as though he expected you had outside knowledge. 2 students dropped NSA as their minor and myself and 1 other are no longer 4.0 students post this class.

Prof. Hartpence definitely knows his networking stuff, he's a nice guy, and his lectures are rarely boring. But, his quizzes and labs are way too hard. When you take his quizzes, you get the sense you're going to get a 100%, but then you get a 40. His labs are not straight forward. It's almost impossible to do them outside of lab time in class.

Re-wrote advanced routing & switching for the class so he's pretty awesome. Can be tough sometimes, but it is often worth the knowledge you get out of it. Can be pretty funny & casual guy too. He is the god of networking and it's worth taking a class with him.

While he might not have the highest ratings from me or others in terms of easiness, he is by far one of the most knowledgeable professors RIT has. He knows what he's talking about and loves it. Can be a little difficult to get help out of him for labs, but you just have to push a little. Will be taking him again!

Hartpence is awesome. He is VoIP. Legend has it if you call his number from ANY VoIP phone the call will go through. In all seriousness, he's a great guy and a great professor. Take him for every class you can.

Excellent knowledge of subject. Although he is not structured but who needs spoon feeding at this level? Very flexible with deadlines and makes the course interesting. Really helpful too.

Telephony and networking are really his passion, and he has a ridiculous amount of knowledge that he wants to impart on his students. Class is not incredibly challenging if you attend class and pay attention... TAKE NOTES, lots of important details. Workload is average for ANSA advanced courses - labs, online quizzes, and a project.

The man knows his stuff; his classes will make you work, but if you do the work, you'll do fine. Show up to class and take notes on what he says, not just what he writes. Quizzes are ridiculously tricky. He'll help you if you are struggling and ask. His classes are notorious for being a lot of work but he makes sure you learn.

Extremely unorganized and expects you to live of to standards he himself doesn't. For our first project, which took half of the quarter, he didn't even give us the rubric until a week before the project was do. He refused to write anything in stone about the project because he had no clue about it himself. AVOID if at all possible! Never again.

Miserable professor - I wish I could sum him up without foul language. I would have been better off using the tuition money to heat my apartment last winter
