Get ready for long "other homework" assignments that are pointless, and if you email her to ask for more direction, you won't get it. I honestly have never had an issue with a professor until I took her class. I thought people were over-exaggerating when they said she grades hard, but they weren't. Her tests are unbelievably long and difficult.

This woman is the most frustrating and difficult professor I have ever had. I have taken Calculus and College Physics, so naturally I thought Algebra would be a breeze. After multiple emails, and office visits this lady did nothing but make me feel completely demoralized. I am a 4.0 student who is struggling to pass her class. Do not take her class

This prof. is the coordinator for the math department at MCC. She is crazy ( to put it nicely) and she needs to quit! Unfortunatly,to any student who hasn't taken a math class yet at mcc, you will hate your life once you do because all profs. that sit under Joy Roy are horrible (to put it nicely). Besides, who gets a degree in math?

worst teacher ever.. her class isn't hard at all and she treats everyone like kidnergardners. it took her two weeks to teach one section of a chapter... the class was useless to me and i passed with flyer colors even though i was never there. She is a lady on a power trip and should not be teaching!!!!

Great professor. Really cares about her students but doesn't put up with anyone's crap. She is there to teach and does a great job at it. Too bad she's hard, get over it. If you give a little effort, you'll do fine. Just because it's a community college doesn't mean it's easy... take Jan, she rocks!

Jan is cool. Algebra is hard, you have to be there, pay attention and ask questions. sometimes she likes to rush but you just have to reign her in and let her know that she is losing you she will slow down. she is always willing to meet with students who need additional help also. Yes, she is demanding and there is quite a bit of homework but so?

I took this class four semsters ago and disagree with all the negative comments. Sure the class is hard and not a walk in the park. I struggled and just passes with a C. However-Jan helped me and met with me a lot any time I asked her.If you need help ask her and she will explain the concepts to you until you get them.Give her a chance,she is nice

Since namecalling isn't helpful to anyone, I'll get right to the specifics. First of all, she thrives on stumping people. If you are working on, say, chapter 4. All of the homework and worksheet problems she gives will be the easy stuff. But LOOK OUT at test time! She even tells students that it isn't her problem if you think she's a bad teacher.

Taking a class from this (teacher?) should have a black box warning. As long as you are a good self-teacher and have a background in psych to help understand a borderline personality you will get a good grade without gaining anything from the course. I come from a family of college Professors, Jan Roy is a sad human being only there for money.

Jan is a terrible "teacher", she was very arrogent and stuck up. If you are planning on going into teaching, I suggest taking Math for Elementary Teachers 1 & 2 elsewhere. She expected everyone in the class to all ready know the material, which is ridiculous, considering some students had been out of school for 15+ yrs. DON'T TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been to 17 different schools in 4 states and Jan Roy is one of the best instructers I have ever had. She cares about her students and is very helpful. I highly recommend her and wish I could of arranged my schedule to have her class this semester as well.
