Comment:
Professor Clarke obviously loves astronomy and is a nice person in general. However, do not take this class just for HUB credits unless you are very interested in astronomy. Many labs. Lecture material is barely related to exams. READ THE TEXTBOOK instead of going to/focusing in lecture. A LOT of material. Nevertheless, the topic is interesting.

Comment:
While Professor Clarke shows his passion for astronomy, this course is far too difficult, with the majority of students getting Ds on exams. Many of his lecture slides ask questions, and most. of those go unanswered. The lectures are also very dull, making it very difficult to retain information.

You can really tell that Clarke has a passion for astronomy. However, his lectures are very boring and the class is graded quite difficultly. If you're looking for an easy A or hub credit, take a different class. (2020)

Knows a lot about his field, I will give him that. Horrible at answering questions to students that don't know as much as him, not the nicest at times (even though he may not mean it). Aways has disconnects between TA's students and him about what is going on in class. Tests can have low averages and he doesn't care, makes things as hard for us!

Very dull lecturer. Sometimes presents contradicting material that only confuses the class further. Textbook isn't mandatory but will help you. He calls people out to answer questions for points, which can hurt your grade if you skip lecture. Labs are insanely confusing and difficult. The only good thing was the Planetarium visit, which was amazing

Do not take this course although the professor is knowledgeable. He tries to give us clear information but he just can't. The first homework makes every one in this class confused. Lots of homework, takes at least 2 hours to finish. The midterm was tricky. I paid lots of effort even more than my major! It's not easy for the hub credit. LABS SUCK!

He's a nice guy, the class isn't the most stimulating thing ever but the lectures are clear and he is very knowledgeable on the subject. It's a very practical class. Plus, he almost always lets out 15 min early.

The textbook does not relate to the class! Not even in the slightest, may be one or two pages at the most. But hey, it's an easy A! Or A-.. He curves well.

Worst teacher I've ever had. His classes are boring, he teaches with PP every day, the book doesn't correlate to anything he teaches, we never cover anything that was on the homework, he's useless when you ask for help, his tests cover material he never taught. Avoid this teacher at all costs.

reallllyyy interesting class, unfortunately for non-science types was fairly hard. if you grasp concepts easily, you'll do great on the tests. labs aren't the greatest, but their taught by t.a.s so it's very laid back and fun to go to. clarke does have a soft spoken voice but if you care about your grades, you'll go to class so you won't miss your

Good teaching method with slides and class questions. Well prepared for each class. Interesting topic. Presents information in a dull manner/tone. Shares own work with NASA. Lots of visuals. Good class for divisional credit as long as you do well on HW, labs, at least one of the midterms, and the final. TA's are enthusiastic and helpful.

Very dull class with too much work. Labs and homework every week. Clarke seems like a nice guy, and he obviously knows a lot about astronomy, but that doesn't mean he makes it interesting.

Fairly easy class. Lectures, labs not too bad. I got an A on the 1st test but a B on the second. Happened to a lot of people. Best thing to do is go over the questions on the astonomyplace website. That's how I aced the first one. Doing the reading is important too, but there's not a ton.

OK for a requirement class. Labs and hw's are easy but tests are ridiculously difficult. He told us not to mememorize #'s then penalized us 6 points b/c we didnt know exact temp/pressures of planets! ahh so frustrating. Overall good experience though.

Easy professor, tries to dumb things down a little too much, but after hearing some student questions, I don't blame him. Knows his stuff, really passionate about it, and will even talk about his research in class. Study and you'll be fine.
